This book was definitely a rollercoaster. It had Rebecca and A Simple Favor vibes. Melanie was both a victim and villain (definitely giving hurted people hurt others). I could somewhat empathize with her although she did some deplorable things. Dylan on the other hand was nasty work. The person I felt most for was Roland. There was so many people who failed him (abusive father, emotionally absent mother, unfaithful wife, deceitful cousin, and in some ways Samira since she refused to communicate no matter how many times Roland asked for honesty). I’m happy Roland got closure in the end and that the toxic elements were removed.

It kept my interest. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. It was a good suspense. The secret and the lies kept my head spinning.

Kept me curious enough to finish it, but it was a struggle, with unlikeable characters all around.

I bumped this up in the queue for listening after watching someone’s reaction to the story. But I was a bit disappointing for me. I thought it was good with a decent amount of twists… just an average thriller/mystery if you ask me
