Boring. Plain and simple. Nothing of interest happens and the investment scheme stuff is just not it for me. I read the final few pages to see if the end would be worth it, but not really. The murder part is only the last 50 pages or so, which... why??
Also, the plot hinges on so many convenient coincidences, I can't anymore. One is fine, two is already toeing the line, but come on.

Much more background to Kinsey which was good. The mystery was more understated and led to less life or death decisions at the end which was refreshing.

Always an excellent story. The protagonist is interesting and engaging while the other characters are well drawn. I love the easy descriptions of location and the reflections of Kinsey as she moves through a familiar place.

J is for just ok. Lame I know.

I'd been curious about this series for a while seeing them in airports for years. A fine airplane read, but there are a lot better mystery writers out there.

It's like a mission for me to get through this alphabet series from Grafton. I suppose it's lucky for her that she crafted a decent character in Kinsey Millhone and has been able to capitalize on it.
This was a longer book than most of her alphabet so far (a-i) and I felt like it dragged on. She needs to keep it a bit shorter. Although since she's almost done with the entire alphabet I suppose that probably hasn't happened. Also in "J" Grafton decided to beef up the reader on California history in the areas of Santa Teresa and Perdido...sigh. It didn't add to the story and I think that history should add to the story not make it drag out.
In this book Kinsey is on the hunt for a "dead" man who doesn't seem to be dead after all. Her hunt takes her to Mexico and then back to her old stomping grounds. In the midst of searching out the "dead" man the reader does find out, along with Kinsey herself, about Kinsey's own family that she never knew she had. As usual Kinsey does things and discovers things that are slightly unrealistic but yet apparently believable enough since Grafton has made a fortune off of her character.

‘J is for Judgment’, #10 in the Kinsey Millhone mystery series, is a great beach read. The only quibble I have is most of the involved suspects tell Kinsey what parts they played in criminal activities without holding much back despite it’s her job bringing them to justice. Plus she seems oblivious as to how the seeking of truth and justice can wipe out whatever gains innocent participants may have inadvertently won because of wayward events. However, Kinsey's unusual perseverance never fails to impress me.
