Held my breath

I am a self-proclaimed #slaughtersquad member, and slowly making my way through the Will Trent series. Book 3 of the series is Undone, and it left me holding my breathe from beginning to end.
The story starts a naked woman who runs into the middle of a highway and is struck by a car. The book had me hooked from the start and while it was clear that something really bad happened to her, the police soon realize that there are several women who are missing, and they need to understand what is happening. And, of course, they put Will Trent on the case.
This book is the first one with a link between the Grant County series and Will Trent series, and Will meets Dr. Sara Linton for the first time. Of course, Faith is here to help Will, with Saraalong for the ride. The partnership Will and Faith share is mutually beneficial and I love the juxtaposition between the two characters.
As always Slaughter depicts a violent world where very bad things happen. And as graphic and disturbing as they are, as a reader I’m hooked and read page after page to find out what happened. Through the gruesome details, I enjoyed the cross-over of worlds between the two series and enjoy the complicated personal lives of all the characters, including Will, Sara and Faith and Angie.
Slaughter has done a great job in developing all the characters, regardless if you like them or not. And knowing a bit of back-story from Sara because I read the Grant County books first, didn’t change anything at all. It actually helped me to understand her better.
Of course, Will is the star of the show, and his character continues to learn and grow and build and solve a few crimes along the way.
It became a book I couldn’t put down and left me wanting more of this series.

Loved the main characters and their working relationship, but the torture was to much for me to really enjoy the book.

This one was disappointing for me. I was tempted to skip based on some reviews here and I wanted to read it to see the partnership between Will and faith. However, it is brutal and needs a lottttt of content warnings, as per usual. It's not just the content that is intolerable but the characters also.
I was not satisfied with the ending and feel like some things were not explained*. I think the only thing you miss if you skip this one is the introduction of Sarah, if you're interested in that. Otherwise, you can spare yourself some sanity and pass.

*Unresolved points that are bugging me, beside just the constant wonder of how Will made it into the GBI - SPOILERS:
</Spoiler> - We're supposed to believe the parents of the perp just so happen to run over their son's victim? Their appearance, reason for being there was not questioned after they were discovered to be the perps parents WITH knowledge of what he does/has done to women.
- Anna is just gonna live without a rib now? There was not much more mention about this after she lives and miraculously recovers.
- Tom's wife... WTH. She was helping him, even if it was unwilling, she acted like a complete robot, but then at a certain point she begged for them to kill her husband. She said this multiple times, but it was never acknowledged, both in the moment and upon reflection of the case. </Spoiler>

This book (and series) is NOT for the faint at heart. What happens within this story is truly disgusting.

I love our two protagonists. Faith Mitchell has personal stuff going on...and it is now bleeding into her work life. She's trying to find that life balance, but in the middle of the investigation...it is NOT easy.

Will Trent continues to have his issues with his dyslexia, and he's NOT inclined to ask for help (his issue with giving up control in his life), but this set of murders has truly rattled him.

The story was VERY hard to read at times. We see how intimately it touches and changes our two protagoinists...and the many others that become involved with this story. Ugh.

Also, the police do NOT come out smelling like roses. Corruptions and incompetence is rife within the police...and it frustrates the GBI and others.

Loved this story. Cannot wait to pick up Broken.
