So. Terrible. The complete and utter implausibility and little to no research put into the science in the beginning killed this book. Giving one star is being generous.

Nova is silly as heck but oh so funny. I like the beginning more. The middle lagged for me. Overall liked the story

After having only read one other alien book even I didn't really know what to expect but being a fan of LA Caseys slater brothers series I thought I'd give it a whirl and I'm glad I did. Overall it was an enjoyable read some parts I really liked others I found a bit boring and slow it could be because of story building or it could just be me but if you like something a bit different then I'd certainly recommend this book.
A solid 3 star read

I’ve read 50% of this novel and the only thing I can say is this wasn’t my cup of tea.

DNF
Wow! This is the first book I've read and actually wrote dnf in the review. Usually I will power through. I had to stop reading to maintain my sanity. I wanted something fun to read because I'm reading other books that are emotionally draining right now. Those books deal with heavy topics, and I wanted to balance out those books by reading something funny and light, but this book was a huge disappointment. The premise wasn't logical, the main female character was judgmental, I don't like the characterization of one of the only bipoc characters in the entire book, and the aliens weren't interesting. This book was not for me, and I couldn't turn the rational side of my brain off.

Hmmm, I don’t know, the story was kind of all over the place. I didn’t get the relationship between the two MCs. Nova is not likeable to me so it was hard for me to sympathize with her self-inflicted mess.

I usually like L.A. Casey's writing, but in this case: wtf? The number of times she repeated the words, "hummed" and "hmmmm" is ridiculous.
Even the sex scenes were underwhelming.
The amount of sexism excused as "but this makes me feel safe" or "but it is better then the Earth I knew" is too damn high. No, no, no missy!
I just can't with this book. I really don't know how I finished reading this.
The last great hurdle was so annoying". The "excuse" for it to happen was so idiotic I wanted to throw my Kindle out the window. The execution of said final problem was even worse. A two year old wouldn't fall for that crap. And the resolution of the problem.... aaaaargh.
The entire book was bad, but the last third of it was a special case of bad.
I'll will give another change for the next in the series, just because this is (supposedly) a scifi romance novel series. But if the second one doesn't blow my mind, that's it. I'll be done with this series, ffs.

Out of ashes is a book that’s book that I find offensive and yet amusing at the same time. At times, I find myself laughing not because something was funny but because it was ridiculous.
This book belongs to the genre of science fiction but where the science in it is, I could not find at all. It is just a romance between an alien and a human not to mention that the aliens in the story look a lot like humans so there goes the controversial factor for me.
Now if we remove the romance from the book, there’s literary nothing else that happens, just nothing. When I pick a book of this genre, I expect many things to take place but in this book, there’s no action, no suspense, no vents, no conflict. There are not even bad guys to spice the story a little bit, no conflict, nothing that just shake the pace of the story even for a bit.
So to summarize this book I’ll say, a human meets an alien, they fight they disagree they get mated or whatever they fall in love they fight again, she decide to run away with the help of his brother and then she comes back, she asks for space she discovers she’s pregnant they get back together, and that’s all.
Now let’s talk about the romance. It’s so absurd and forced and ridiculous and I know that it’s fate for them to love each other but that excuse does not justify the lack of chemistry and intensity of the love story. I did not click with the romance which means I did not click with the book.
Now me not liking the book does not necessary mean I did not found any redeeming thing about it. What I liked is the world building. The writer knows how to create an atmosphere that’s both threatening and captivating despite the tragic quality of it but it is well build and well represented in the book.
I strongly believe the book would’ve been better if the story took place on earth just before the imploding of the planet. The stakes would’ve been higher with more tension and more risks to take. But unfortunately the story took place in the ship and later in another planet where nothing dangerous or suspenseful happens. Shame the story turned out this way because it has so potential.
Now to be fair, the first pages of the book were really good but the moment she wakes up in the Maji ship, the book lost its magic and never recovered.
