I liked the idea, but it was so oddly paced. I had trouble connecting because events would just sort of go by in a “tell, not shown” way. Was frustrated to the end

Patience wants to find her mother in America and she will do anything to make it happen. This book is so heart breaking. It's written beautifully and keeps you engaged.

Patience is trying to get to America to find her mother. Her determination gets her through many tough and heartbreaking situations. Her journey is a tough one that pulls at your heart as she overcomes each obstacle. I enjoyed reading this book. I love the way Abi drew us in and weaved the country's fight for democracy into Patience's journey.
