Rise of the Valiant by Morgan Rice

Let me start by saying: this book desperately needs an editor, and a copy editor. The descriptions are insanely repetitive, and there are so many errors that at times it is massively confusing (like, the wrong name used, in several places).

The schizophrenic nature of the chapters is also tough. She seems to be trying to mirror George RR Martin's style - each chapter in a different POV - but the chapters are so short (and the book overall is so short) that I get whiplash with the transitions, and feel like we're spinning our wheels. There's no time spent on any one character, to give real forward movement. Basically, if you glue three books together, you'd have what seems like a normal story arc.

And all the leading teens - Kyra, Alec, Dierdre, Aiden - are just stunningly stupid. Fully TSTL. It's becoming painful.

I'm only reading onward, at this point, because I'm on vacation and my kindle hasn't got anything else loaded. *sigh*

I could copy-paste my review of Rise of the Dragons here. Except it gets worse, because between POV switches à la GRRM, she forgets important details - such as a magically re-spawning weapon. I hate being betrayed by an author like that. She loves having her characters "crest hills", and she might want to look up the definition of "shriek" before suggesting her big respected warrior leader engages in such high-pitched nonsense. Half of all chapters end with a character convinced they are about to die, but she lacks GRRM's follow-through. All main characters are always fine. Still a decent story, still in dire need of an editor or co-author.

Another great, fast edition to the series. These really could have been one longer. Tome, singe you can't read any of them independently.

Great having 4 separate stories going along, with berry different characters and classes.

I consumed the audiobook version of this book and it is much more exciting and immersive in audio. I do think most fantasy books when converted to audio version becomes such things.

Both have high-regards with the author and the storyteller. This is the type of fantasybook I like. No need for those wierd convulted sexual plots of Game of Thrones

New perspectives:
Duncan - the best warlord father.. Ever.. As i join him in his war battles i honestly feel like one of his warriors fighting by his side.. Goddamn
Aiden
and two others I dont want to spoil

Murk still my favorite character. Hahahah the equalizer of the fantasy world. But yeah he is dick for unabling to help the lady’: parents in time. But then again.. He never done anything good or heroic before. So this is his first time. He is also unexpectedly philosophical and searching for his meaning and purpose in his life. Even if you dont know how to read or write, we all will eventually seek meaning in the things we do. But I think even more so for someone who is illiterate because they are unable to get meaning or possible answers from books they cant read so the eagerly search it more by pondering and finding thins

Murk also mentioned that deep stillness quiet in his mind that is oddly meditative. That is zen masters mention

And we are unworthy
