I want there to be more. The ending to this book, while full of love, light and happiness, also left me with an aching. What's next? Without giving away any spoilers, I had sort of expected MORE to happen by the end of The Dragon's Promise, which leaves me to ask if this will be a trilogy? Unlike Six Crimson Cranes, The Dragon's Promise felt rushed, severely so. Not to the point where I thought the book was bad, not at all, but it did leave me wanting. So many open ended details are left for us that I truly hope there will be another installment in the series and that we will see more of Shiori, Takkan, the Six Brothers and the Emperor; and Megari, of course. This was so enjoyable to read, and I hope there is more in the future, maybe an offshoot series featuring Seryu?? That would be WONDERFUL! I love that Dragon Prince and his haughtiness.

This book straight up pissed me off. The first book wasn't the best thing I'd ever read, but I found it reasonably creative and enjoyable. However, reading this book totally ruined the first book for me because it just MADE NO SENSE. The first third of the book follows almost an entirely separate plot to the second two thirds, there was a clunky, lazy attempt at a love triangle, and all of the characters became indistinguishable and a complete nuisance. It's such a bummer because I felt like the story and characters, while flawed, had potential and I allowed myself to have much higher hopes for the sequel.

I stopped reading about halfway through. I didn't vibe with the book, but honestly can't really say why, because overall I loved the characters (although Kiki was annoying more than once), the plot was alright and the writing style was also nice. I just never felt like picking the book back up after I put it down.

Tbh when I started this series I didn't expect to like it to this extent.
I loved the world building and the way the author did Shiori's character justice in her writing. The same goes for the Nameless Queen.
Not only that all the relationships in this series is crafted in such a way that you can't help but feel for them. Be it Shiori and her brothers, Takkan and Shiori, Seryu and Shiori or Kiki and Shiori, their relationships were not rushed nor neglected, rather slowly grown to the reader's liking.
Side note: My boy Seryu still deserved better :')
And, I may have nearly cried by the end :")

Some books should only be stand-alone... This may be the case for one! Please be sure to find out more in my spoiler-free review. https://youtu.be/KSy8Ua3dz0k
