A little slow in parts but overall I enjoyed it. Some interesting political commentary in the middle.

The first 40% already had a lot of pacing problems, but after the crew finally got into space the pace REALLY tanked. This novel crawls along while hinting that something interesting might happen at some point, but good luck getting there. I caught myself only wanting to continue out of sunk cost/time. If I’m not excited to pick something up, I won’t, so that’s that.

Great book, not so much about the destination as the journey at hand.

It's a slow paced book with a disappointment ending, but the plot itself was interesting.

This book is character-focused. I like the New Creationists as a concept (ofc the Christian apocalypse cult is American) and how Astrid became infatuated with them.

There is social commentary weaved throughout the Beta’s stories. But it feels just like a one off mention that some of the Beta’s experiences with racism, classsism/poverty, misogyny etc. rather than how these things impact their interactions and work on the ship.

I also would have liked to have more
interactions with the shēngmìng crew
, as they might have served as a reflection/counterpoint to damocles.
