Good without being mind boggling... it would've been better without the conversation back and forth banter that felt like filler. Worth the read. And the title is terrible! I would've never read this except for hearing about it on a podcast.

A beautiful and honest book with a lot that isn't new, but that's really good and true and made wonderfully accessible.

My husband and I read this together. It's an easy read and has some good ideas.

It's not a bad book; it's just also not really what it advertises to be either. Nothing in here is really new or profound and not necessarily exclusively about married couples. The behavior patterns and mindsets they talk about are basically respecting another person for who they are and creating space for them to be themselves with you. I'd say that's true of any kind of healthy relationship. I like a lot of what Rob Bell has to say but sometimes it concerns me with how he seems to need to take the "but this is new and sexy" angle vs this isn't new but it's something we need to be reminded of and this is what helps me; also his penchant for unnecessarily vague and flowery language...

A sweet, easy book. I didn't see anything controversial here that even complimentarians would oppose. I did find there was still a push to maintain a certain look and weight for health reasons. It was brief and innocent but a reflection of our larger culture and not how God views our bodies. It also isn't a self help book. It's just a sweet book on the mysteries of the marital relationship.

The he said/she said conversational format can be trite or comforting depending on your tastes. I enjoyed it because if I'm going to read what is basically a self-help book, I prefer to keep it simple and chatty.
And it is simple. This is not a book for deeply troubled souls. This is a simple refresher course for long-term relationships. It's not (IMO) even overly Christian or biblical. There are quotes from Hebrews and talk of "grace" and the "divine," but I read it as an agnostic, casual fan of Rob Bell's pop theology and still found it to be an interesting conversation starter. I mean, if you and your partner haven't talked about some of these things, maybe you do need more than this book.
And, yeah, I am against unity candles, too. Don't snuff out my flame!

After reading "Love Wins", this was a disappointing book. I didn't find much of value in what was written. On top of that, Bell has an annoying writing style. It is like he tries to accent everything he says with one sentence paragraphs so it reads very choppy. I found that annoying in Love Wins but he had enough profound perspectives in the book that I could get through it. This book did not have this.

I just spent the last hour reading the entire book, and it’s easily Rob Bell’s worst. If you’ve every read a book about marriage you won’t find anything new or interesting here. (It’s joyful, it’s painful, it’s a unique relationship, give the other person the benefit of the doubt, he/she might change, encourage each other, don’t make your fights public, etc.)
I didn’t underline or make notes on anything. It’s very average. The only thing new is the reference to ‘zimzum,’ but that’s just a $20 word and new way to frame material that’s all been covered before.
The book jumps back and forth between traditional writing and a conversation between Rob and his wife Kristen. It’s a little clunky. I imagine they had a conversation and then Rob filled in all the gaps.
I’m also confused by who the publisher thinks the audience is. Is it for Christians? If so, why is there so little reference to Scripture or Rob Bell’s experience as a pastor? Why should we listen to him and his wife? It just reads like a conversation between two people who’ve been married for a few years. (For how long I have no idea. Maybe they said but I don’t remember.) It could have been written by anybody. Why do I care what they think?
Read “The Meaning of Marriage” by Tim Keller or “You and Me Forever” by Francis Chan for a more challenging and informative discussion on Christian marriage.

Recommended. Presented thoughts about marriage that not everyone considers. Short, concise and to the point. Well done.

An easy, quick read. Not Bell's best, but interesting and fun. :)
