Thank you to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

my first one star rating this year :/

never did i ever think that i was going to be this disappointed by this book. my hopes and enthusiasm for it were really high and in the end i dnf’d it at 35% and skimmed through the rest just to see if i missed something good (i did not).

what irritated me the most was the slow pace and not enough information about what was going on. the author did more telling than showing in my opinion and i couldn’t take it anymore.

the plot was boring (i almost fell asleep honestly), the characters were one dimensional and confusing.

the book had potential if we consider the summary but the execution was horrible and i wouldn’t recommend it to anyone since it’s just a waste of time.

2.5 stars. Ahh - my end of the year hopefuls are not quite going my way. I love Shea Ernshaw's beautiful writing style, but I couldn't really connect with this story! Personally, I found the action happened to soon so there was a chase going for the whole book (and sadly it made the whole middle a little repetitive), and I couldn't really connect with the characters. While I love the story of the Astronomer and the Architect, I thought it could have been better sold as a sci-fi to maybe reach a better audience. I did read it quickly to see what happened, but wasn't my favourite by this author.

If this book was like 50-100 pages shorter, it would’ve been great. I think the plot was a little all over the place and considering the MC has only ever interacted with her mother, her social skills should not be as good as they are. I liked the idea of the stars and the astronomer and architect.

favorite quote: " I knew then that you were her ... the one I've been looking for in the faces of every girl I've ever met. In every town and outpost, I would scan the crowds, hoping I'd find you."

I read this book because I started to doubt if I was correct about the December Owlcrate book... I was not, however, I kept reading the book. I seldom DNF. There were times I really enjoyed the story, others, where it was a bit of a trudge. It was 400 pages. A few weeks later, I am still wondering if it should have been edited down 15-70 pages. 3 constellations that were a booger to find.

Vega’s voice is perfect for this tale! I enjoyed following her story and discovering her world along with her. The integration of the constellations and the way the stars are valued really make this story unique. The mystery of the consumption and the mystery around the journey Vega is expected to take based on what her mother taught her growing up really keep you hooked on reading this story, because you know Vega isn’t telling you everything. I really think this is a book to add to your tbr!

This was a slow read, but I was along for the ride until the big reveal/explanation. Honestly, that killed it for me. Finished the book but wasn't very into it.

No ha sido un libro para mi. La trama me ha parecido muy repetitiva, el personaje principal me da la sensación de que no ha evolucionado nada a lo largo del libro.
En general no es terrible pero no lo he disfrutado...
