An absolute must read for everyone. This torn through to my very soul. It felt like I was reading all my hopes, dreams, and fears. I related so hard and I absolutely loved every second of it

I read this to get more Carol/Maria content and I got what I wanted. God, I love them. They are so MFEO.

As a fan of marvel this was such a refreshingly wholesome book as a good prequel to the movie

¿Me he enamorado de este libro? Definitivamente

“I was born to fly. Of all the things I’ve ever doubted, that was never one of them.” - Carol Danver

I really enjoyed reading Higher. further. Faster. By Liza Palmer. Captain Marvel is my all time favourite superhero from the Marvel universe! So it was nice to get some insight into Carol Danver before she became Captain Marvel. Of course, she’s just as badass without the superpowers!

I adored the feminism in this book. Such awesome women, kicking men’s butts and fighting for equality in the airforce! I really loved that there was friendly competition, but ultimately, Carol and Maria still lifted each other up. There’s nothing better than women supporting women!

Although I enjoyed the book, I did sometimes struggle with all the airforce and plane jargon, that was sometimes left unexplained!

This was a fun read and definitely a great story for younger girls AND boys! It’s all about female empowerment and working hard to achieve your dreams. And definitely shows that women can do anything men can!

I started out really liking this, and then it went down fast. The tone was breezy and funny, and I thought it captured Carol's essence early in her life really nicely - her drive, her intensity, her recklessness. But the interpersonal relationships pretty quickly developed into someone's idea of a perfect high school friend group, teasing and giggling and not at all authentic to (albeit young) adults completing military training and pushing hard against a prejudiced system. Some lightness would be very welcome, but it just felt very young. I'm giving it three stars because I liked Carol and I really liked her developing friendship with Maria, though her pseudo-romance with a reformed flyboy is entirely unnecessary.

Okay, just WOW! This book was beyond amazing and had such a pull of emotions that I found myself crying at some parts (no shame). And I absolutely loved the father-son chemistry between Tony and Peter. It made my heart flutter when Tony was always being so overprotective over him because all he wanted for Peter was for him to be safe! I felt like we really got to see what Tony was thinking when Peter got himself into these dangerous situations whenever he really shouldn’t be in them. I was glad as readers we dove deeper into the characters minds rather than seeing it play on a movie screen when we have to guess what is happening in their thought process. No lie Peter Parker is I think my favorite character mostly because he is silly, whimsical, and represents this little ball of youth in the avengers. All he wants to do is impress Tony so he seems like he isn’t just a kid after all. Every time I read Peter’s name I couldn’t help but get extremely excited and happy!

Before reading this book I had read a romance contemporary which really isn’t my thing, and the entire time I was reading that book, I was wishing for fantasy/action. This book really brought that. The writing style I definitely enjoyed because it was not complicated to keep up with at all! I had wanted something easy and quick to read and this book definitely brought that.

I did not intend to finish this book from the afternoon all the way to 12:30 in the morning. I read this book after watching endgame and now since I have read Destiny Arrives all I want to do is rewatch all of the movies!!!

Highly recommend for avengers lovers!!!

Second beach read of 2019, and this book was criminally short. While I understood why this part of Carol's life was excluded from the Captain Marvel movie, I still wanted more of it and this book absolutely did not disappoint. I adored the character work in this novel - Carol's characterization, character interactions and growth, it was all so phenomenally done. If you're looking for a short read that reads easily, explores character headspace more so than a plot-drive and makes up for the lack of pilot Carol in your life/the movie, this is the book for you.

More substance to this than to most YA superhero(ine) fiction. This is the backstory of Capt Marvel when she was just Carol Danvers, a new Air Force Academy cadet longing to fly. Less magic, but still plenty of inspiration.

Happy to indulge my inner child here when I plucked this book from the children’s/ YA section. No regrets (and totally not just for children I tell myself) A fun, short quick little read following Carol Danvers in her early years of training for the airforce. It was great to read a back story of something that was only touched upon in the films and enjoyed getting to know her life prior to becoming Captain Marvel.

It was easy to tell the target audience of this book is perhaps for those a bit younger than me (I’m feeling young teenage category) but I enjoyed the book nonetheless (as an older, definitely no longer in the young teenage category)! She’s one of my favourite marvel characters and the book definitely did her character justice.

Although at time it did read as more of a high school set up and dynamic throughout the book as opposed to hardcore hard nosed army training and a few slightly silly moments here and there. Some cheesiness too.

Some lovely carryover messages running throughout though such as the importance of friendship, doing things for the right reasons and sticking to your dreams no matter how impossible they might seem. Impossible not to feel uplifted after this little book and a great message to all the littler readers out there who couldn’t find a better role model than in Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel as she is truly a kickass amazing woman which the book did true justice to!
