I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I had a few suspicions as to what was going on, the similarities had me thinking it was one thing but I audibly gasped when the twist revealed itself. It was very clever and even tho the thought had crossed my mind early it was squashed by the other ideas circling. I also appreciate seeing a side of DV that is more mental and manipulative and clever as it's not all fists and fury and I think this was well written.

It was well written, but the “twist” was more obvious than I thought it would be.
I had an inkling only a few chapters in that the guy was the same in both POVs but thought maybe he was living a double life. I felt confident that the two MCs were the same person before I hit the 50% mark. Not really a surprise!

Still it was a fast read and I can’t deny I was captivated and motivated to keep reading.

I really enjoyed this book. Definitely gives an insight into covert, controlling relationships. For me, it was a slightly difficult read because I have been subjected to covert behaviour.

If you are looking for a fast paced psychological thriller, look no further!

B̷R̷I̷N̷G̷ ✨ 𝗕𝗢𝗥𝗥𝗢𝗪 ✨ B̷Y̷P̷A̷S̷S̷

There’s not a ton of character development here, there’s not a ton of in depth analytical musings on life, etc … but it’s a super quick read that you’re not going to want to put down to see how it all comes together in the end!

I suspected one twist fairly early, but another totally surprised me in such a good way! I really enjoyed the pacing and how all the clues were left out, and I did think the author did a terrifying job of showing how insidious some relationships can be. (Check those Content Warnings, for sure)

As of April 2023 this one is available on Kindle Unlimited and I would recommend it, especially if you’re looking for a quick weekend read or something to get you back on track for a reading goal!

The Forgetting was a well written mystery that kept me on my toes. The plot was unique, and I haven't read a mystery quite like it. I enjoyed all the twists and turns. There was good build up, and the ending wrapped everything up pretty nicely without dragging.

“There is such a nonchalance in his voice that for a second I’m destabilized, as though I’m in a parallel reality where everything is distorted and I can’t trust what I know to be true.”

As someone who has just left a scary relationship like this, this story was a little too on the nose for me. It was like seeing pieces of my relationship in fiction. The quote above was very much like a huge aspect of my relationship with someone with a cluster-b personality disorder. I know that isn’t really brought up in this story, and I’m not trying to armchair diagnose Dominic, but good god was his behavior like so eerily like what I’ve experienced. I even have traumatic brain injury from a car accident and my ex would use that to gaslight me so often.

I guess this is less a review and more a “holy crap I’ve experienced these things too.” So, to anyone who has had a relationship like this, please know that I empathize from the bottom of my heart. We’ll heal and we will thrive.
