This was my 4th book finished in 2025.

The Celts are something I know basically nothing about, so I was excited to read this book. Sadly after finishing it, I can say I still know essentially nothing about them. I found most of this book quite boring.

This book did a really poor job of even outlining who exactly they were, where they lived and the time frames. It often confusingly mixes up ancient Balkan peoples with more modern people in Wales and Ireland. This is a theme of HH books, whereby so often they don't give dates or locations when they're talking about something. I wish it had been clearer about who it was talking about - specifically I wanted to know about ancient people of Britain; after all this is a British book published in Britain. I appreciate the Celts were once a wide spread culture throughout Europe, but it was rarely clear who was being referred to.

So much of it felt like filler - was it necessary to have 9 whole pages used for a difficult-to-read diary entry on festivals?

HH clearly got better over time - the ones from the 90s aren't very well written compared to the modern entries released in the 2010/2020s.

Again, another more old school Horrible Histories book about my favourite Ancient groups; the Celts and the Celtic nations.

The more old school feel to this book does lend more to the nostalgia vibe but it’s still got everything in there that I loved the first time I read it. And I think I can categorically state that this is where my fascination with Wales and Ireland started, before I even knew about my own family’s quite deep connections to those two countries.

Worth the re read and I can definitely see how this was able to springboard me into reading the other books in this collection when I was younger.

Molto leggero e divertente, per dei ragazzini penso sia un libro piacevole ed educativo.

ah, pan celtica. where what happened in one place is a universal celtic experience, even without some of the modern doubts about celtic being a true racial and not social experience.

most good but very generic, it's like claiming that the experience of being irish in Dublin is applicable across the whole country

I'm thoroughly enjoying rereading these Horrible Histories books that I haven’t read in over a decade! There is plenty of information included that you might not find in more 'traditional' history books.

The cartoons are brilliant and still make me giggle even after all these years and Terry Deary's writing is still as engaging as it was all those years ago.

Even if you're an adult historian you will still enjoy reading these, whether reading them for the first time or rediscovering them!
