Blech.

The writing hasn't improved from the first three books, so I won't go into how much I hate it (already have!). The characters are still so one-dimensional. And our main character died and we had closure in book #3, so WHY do we have to have a fourth book? It reminded me of an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in that the characters continue to battle demons and vamps and whatnot, but no one was half as interesting or fun as in BtVS.

Anyway, I have a lot of complaints about the book, but I'm too tired to actually write them. So I'll stick with this: The book sucks. So does the series. Don't read it. It's not worth it and I think it actually kills brain cells.

1.5 star rating. This book has been the most boring in the series so far because Elena wasn't even in it! It is a rare occurrence that a TV or film adaptation of a book series far exceeds the original source - with this series it is absolutely the case.

This book so far has been the best one out of the entire first part of the series. The ending of the book was interesting, and kind of makes me want too read the next book in this series. Also Klaus was interesting, I can't remember if he died or not, because if he's alive I can't wait for his obsession with Caroline.

I liked how we got a different perspective in this book. I have always loved Bonnie she was also one of my favourite characters. What I do find strange is how Elena in the show had a brother, but in the books she has a little sister. I think I like her having a little sister more, it seems like she would be such a great sister. To never see her family again though it would be so hard. I would like to know how she to be resurrected. I think the only characters that might have remained the same are, Tyler, Bonnie and Damon. that's it.

Honestly with Elena dead it's a little more peaceful and entertaining, and there's less whining to be honest. Everyone is finally getting along together in the book and not fighting. This series is also really long so I don't know if I want to continue reading it. I do want to see what Elena has to bring to the series now that she has been resurrected from the grave. Elena being brought back might make an interesting story, we will have to see what happens. There's not much I have to say about this book. Happy Reading!!!!

Such a lame cop-out of an ending...Smith should have left it as a trilogy.

Hahahahaha, finally I've finished! I have gotten through the horrible change in main female protagonist that I was even less interested in that I was the original main female protagonist (which is saying a lot). And then I finish the book only to get the sense that it's really just setting up another series. Which is was. Very obviously. And how it did so is just such a cop out that I can't even believe it was allowed. I simply cannot get over the fact that I actually love this TV show, because I have hated every single second of this book series. I'm glad I finished this round, but I'm going to need some time and some alcohol if I ever decide to get to the remaining Vampire Diaries spin-off novels that exist (which is a shame in and of itself). Well, I'm four books closer to my goodreads goal, and that's about all I can celebrate for this.
