This book is an emotional roller coaster. It was so good though. I feel so bad for Skyclan, they don't deserve any of the bad things that happened to them in this book.
TBH Hawkwing's romance was so random like he just suddenly decided that he no longer couldn't stand Pebbleshine and loved her instead. The Erins should also emphasize age for these characters cuz Hawkwing fell in love with Pebbleshine when she was still an apprentice and I get that like they are close in age and it's not weird but it's walking a fine line cuz we don't know for sure if she is full-grown when he starts looking at her in a romantic way. It could have been written better.

I see some good reviews about this book, but the top reviews aren't happy. I get it; many of you aren't happy following this series with the newer cats. I enjoy the new characters just as much as the original. It can be a difficult thing to introduce new characters (I'm looking at you, season six of Glee), but the Erins have pulled it off incredibly well.
It took me a little while to get through this series, not because it didn't grab my attention but because I haven't had the time to read. I wanted to pick this book up; I just never had the option to outside of my daily commute. Hawkwing's Journey has to be one of my favourites now from the Warriors series. It has a great storyline and has built the foundation for characters who hopefully will soon play a central role in the Warriors universe. It doesn't elude to if SkyClan will or will not survive and make it to the lake territories, but it does set up for A Vision of Shadows in showing.
I wasn't sure of Hawkwing at the start, but I found him to be a very engaging character.. He is much like Jayfeather is a way (who I know is a fan favourite).
Heavy themes were very prominent in this book, which is fine for me (in my 20s). This being a children's book, I think this would be best for older kids rather than younger kids.

At first I didn't think I was going to enjoy this Super Edition as much as I enjoy some of the other books because in the a good portion of the book Hawkwing, our narrator, spends a lot of it deep in grief after his brother Duskpaw dies in a fire that Hawkwing thinks he could've saved him from.
Once he began to recover from his grief and guilt I found the book much more enjoyable.

It was interesting to be able to read what happened to SkyClan before they made it to the other clans. It was cool to see Hawkwing’s character growth as well.

gosh i love skyclan lore
firestar's quest is one of my favorite super editions, and although skyclan's destiny lagged a bit for me, i love seeing them again and i love that they're becoming part of the main series in AVOS.
hawkwing's journey fills in some background related to AVOS, and i believe it takes place prior to and concurrent with the apprentice's quest through shattered sky. we get to see how skyclan was driven from their home at the gorge and how they came to briefly settle in the place wheretwigpaw found them. we also get a sense of how twigpaw and violetpaw were born and lost/found by alderpaw .
however it was very sad???? i mean, that is on brand for super editions, but like. leafstar lost her mate and two kits (stormheart and firefern) and the only one who is still alive is the one named aftersol ?????? and the clan lost so many cats on their journey from the gorge... sad!
