2024 reread
My favorite childhood book brought to life by an audiobook? Its so well done! This is my 3rd reread listed, though I reread it about 10x as a kid. I was ecstatic to find the audiobook of it on Hoopla. The emotion the narrator brings to the table made the story new again. I immediately started book 2 this morning. This will be my first time reading the whole series back to back. I'm so excited!! I always forget how wonderfully strange Forester explains her character's emotions in the 3rd person omnipresent. I adore it so much❤️❤️
Piper and friends are everything I've always wanted to read and write about: kids with powers  that team up and get to have true friendships and found family because of it. I adore these characters and Forester's amazing storytelling everytime❤️

Matilda meets an even higher level of fantasy and supernatural themes. This is a story of finding your people as an outcast, standing up for what you deserve, and wanting to be treated with respect. A lot of the topics are on the harsher end for a middle grade book, but I think it definitely achieved what it set out to do and the writing makes you feel strong empathy for all the characters. Especially if you've ever found yourself in a situation even remotely like theirs.

To elaborate on the content warnings: There are some micro-aggressions and moments of normalized sexism that don’t come as a surprise from a book published in 2008. Nothing explicit or graphic, but definitely worth calling out.

I gave it a 3 for that and the fact that the writing isn’t the strongest (it has its witty moments, but sometimes feels a bit clumsy/rushed/boring). I will say, however, that the twists and turns were a lot of fun. I LOVE sci-fi mixed with a bit of fantasy, and this plot does “magic kids get tangled in government conspiracy” very well. Some loveable character development, too!

It was fun to find this book from my 6th grade book fair and let it take me on fast-paced adventures to balance out the philosophy I’m reading. I enjoyed the plot twists and character bonding. That being said, I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it.

This book follows the story of Piper McCloud, a girl who can fly (funnily enough)and a few months of her childhood. I loved this book. The characters were great and really relate-able although the start does make it hard to get into. One I reached the main bulk of the story I couldn't put it down - It's addictive! I would recommend it to anyone. It is like a paper hug - a feel good book which really mixes your emotions but ultimately makes you smile!
