Eugh !!!

I have given this book 4 stars...but ideally I would have rated it 3.5 stars.

Caitrina is the beloved daughter of the Chief of Lamont. Bitter enemies of the Campbells.
Jamie visits her family under the pretense of "wooing" the Chiefs daughter not realising how true that would end up being.
In reality he is there to find the MacGregors, who he has heard rumours about hiding out there.
Anyway after some kisses, some intimate touches and fights, words are exchanged and Jamie leavess angry.
In the meantime his horrible brother decides to wreak havok in Bute at the Lamonts and kills her entire family, nearly killing her but she managed to escape thanks to Jamie rescuing her.
Three months later...she is in hiding and he doesnt know where she is but he manages to track her down and after some more fighting, he offers to marry her and help her restore her home ... blah blah blah

To be honest, i would continue with this but Caitrina had to be one of the most annoying heroines of all times.

Jamie was even better than when he appeared in the MacLeod trilogy...he seemed more manly, more sure of himself and well just MORE in general.
My heart just melted on his scenes he was such a brilliant hero.

Caitrina...was full of biased attitute and was annoying, naive and needed a good kick up the arse if you ask me.

It seemed the Lamonts were peeved that the Campbells disowned their mother etc but I do wonder how that had anything to do with Jamie etc and they were showing the same attitude to them as what they showed to their mother...all was hypocritical to me.

There were lots of fights and each time Jamie was as honest as anything and she lied and hid things and was quite horrible to him at times with what she said. He never gave her any reason not to trust him and she was constantly throwing in his face how she didnt. Yet she supposedly loved him? The last fight had to be the worse thing...she isnt getting her own way so she seduces him, has sex with him...then assumes she is so good he is totally going to do what she wants now.

BUT.....Even though she was horrible, she did come through in the end, thank the lord!

Jamie saved the book for me. He was a brilliant character and I absolutely adored him the entire way through this. He didnt do anything to ruin himself in my eyes. I think he deserved a better heroine but Monica McCarty makes a very good story and as before as I was sucked in and had to keep reading.

I look forward to reading Elizabeth's story.

Oh how Caitrina drove me crazy!!! Dear god woman!!! She finally realized after 353 f**king pages she "might" be "wrong"... but kept on yapping...

I enjoyed some aspects of the book (hot Scottish highlanders) and the sex scenes. But I don't think they said "shut up" or "crap" back 1608. Sorry (not really) being so honest. I'm just evil!!!

Also a big thank you to Louise Belcher gifs

3.5 ⭐️

Jaime is tasked with being the bad guy trying to bring justice to the Highlands. He falls for the enemy then manipulates tragedy to get the girl. Misunderstanding abounds. His heart is good, he wants to help but none of the Lamonts trust him and his Lamont bride wants him but doesn’t want to and spends way too much time in denial which has costly consequences. All to get to the HEA.

It was an OK read. I honor the way the hero was biding the law and at the same time trying to do justice. Not everything is black and white here but I still admire him.

Some of the things from the book just irritate me. I feel like there wasn't enough interaction between the hero and the heroine. I wanted more of their interaction.

Not the best Highlander book I have read, but not the worst either. The heroine's personality was wearing at times, but I did like Jamie's character.

For some reason I fell in love with Jamie almost intantly. Faster than I expected. I even expected to hate him some. Even though the story was a little repetitive at times, it was great. I kind of expected some of the things that happened but still ended up pleasantly surprised by most. I wanted to shake and hit Caitrina constantly. I could not stop reading desperate to know what would happen...

Very Good. Again, I could not put this book down. She does excellent research on her novels.

Another fantastic highlander tale from Monica McCarty.

This is my third McCarty novel and I'm really enjoying her two trilogies: The Campbells and the MacLeods. There's just been something a bit more special about those two books for me compared to her Highland Guard series one that I tried.

I'd definitely describe McCarty as a very evocative writer. Able to pull lots of different emotions from her readers throughout each book. From the almost giddy feeling of witnessing the rather embarrassing first meeting of our main couple, to the heady awareness and temptation, followed swiftly by trepidation and the fear of all these new feelings and responses. Then to top all that off she kicks you in the gut a good few times once she knows she's got you fully committed to the love story.

And I loved every second of it!

The couple we follow in this book is made up of Jamie Campbell, who is a man whose reputation precedes him, much to his annoyance. And Caitrina Lamont, a woman famed for her beauty throughout all the Highlands. They may be from two enemy clans, but Jamie is a man with a plan and he plans to have Caitrina no matter what. I really connected well to the two of them and enjoyed watching them both change, evolve and adapt. Their love scenes were also some of the best I have read in a while. The wedding night! Whew!

I really recommend this book to all fans of Scottish romances. It's a real keeper!

4 Stars! ★★★★

Hero wants heroine to pick him over her family but won’t do the same for her—double standards much? I’m all for overbearing, stubborn and masculine heroes but they usually go through some for of ‘ah ha’ moment where they get their shit together. Caitrina is not the worst I’ve read but the decisions she makes are iffy a lot of the time. If you just read for the sex you might like the book but I found the plot a little lacking and the relationship fickle and shallow.
