Hell On Wheels is the first book in the Black Knights Inc. series. Author Julie Ann Walker has brought the reader and action packed romantic suspense to keep you interested until the last page.
When I was first notified of this new series, I was excited to find a new author to add to my reading list. If you are looking for a book full of action, suspense, hot romance and edginess to keep you going, then Hell On Wheels fills all of this listed. I really enjoyed the writing style and the characters. The heroine was a little over the top, but I took it in stride and enjoyed the story.
I will mention that this book does fall into the trap of first books in a series. It seemed to be over abundant in characters and scene building. Unfortunately when going into a series, you have to come to expect the author in trying to push everything onto the reader at once. Hopefully this will be something that is cleared up before the next books are released. I really want to enjoy the next book and don't want to be bogged down by all the replay of it again.
There are also scenes in the book that will bring tears to your eyes, so be warned. This is a good thing though in knowing that the writing is done well enough to be able to pull you into that emotional turmoil.
While the book was not one of my favorites, I am anxious to start the next one when it releases. A quick paced read and one with great story.

Hell on Wheels is a great beginning for this captivating series. The truth about what Nate and Grigg endured was heartbreaking and very graphic. It was understandable why Nate kept the truth from Ali but at the same time Nate felt guilty for what happened. It was entertaining how often Ali was sick at the most inopportune times. This series has it all, bad boys with tattoos, motorcycles, the typical hard headed male, and action.

Hell on Wheels kind of annoyed me. Okay, it really annoyed me. This book was disappointing and definitely underwhelming in my eyes. I was expecting more since this is the opener for the Black Knights Inc. series.. but
The beginning did get me hooked.. but then it just fell so flat. I didn't really care about what was happening in this book and I also didn't connect to any of the characters. This book is basically about a secret ops team that rides motorcycles.. or whatever. It was weird and I couldn't wrap my head around it or support it. This gang was just filled with so many clichés and again, I couldn't see this as being realistic at all.
I just have one thing that bothered me: THE MOTORCYCLE THING. Okay, so motorcycles aren't quiet.. but then again, most vehicles aren't (unless they are a hybrid). So why would they be a secret ops team that goes on missions with them?!? Meh.
Besides that this book follows Ali and Nate. They have a weird kind of brother sister kind of relationship in the beginning due to the bro code. Then they start to develop feelings for each other or they start to show those said feelings that they've kept hidden. Things start to change from friendship to relationship which I could totally get behind. However, I just did not like Ali and Nate. They were cute and vanilla.. but overall meh and boring.
Overall, I was bored with the main characters and this story. Ali just baffled me when she got all upset about not making Nate cry in all the years she has known him. Nate was just boring to me. I definitely had expectations for this book.. and I have no idea if I'm going to move on to the next one..

This is a great novel for mature audiences. Just above the new adult genre, but it interested me nonetheless. I loved, I absolutely loved the way Nate was portrayed. I loved reading the guy's thoughts as well as the girl's. I read this in one day. It was THAT good.

A Great Start to Series
This was my first book by Julie and I loved it. The characters are fun, a little over-the-top and off colored" and even with personal losses, they find a way. If you like a good secret gov't merc team with a front as a MC, give this a read! It will not disappoint.

I’m a little late to the game in picking up the Black Knights Inc. series from Julie Ann Walker but I am very excited I did. Doesn’t get much better than hot alpha ex-military males. And for even more fun, the first in the series Hell on Wheels gave me one of my favorite tropes, best friend’s little sister. Ali recently lost her brother when he was on a mission with Nate but she doesn’t believe the story she has been given. When she begins to feel she’s being followed, Ali turns to Nate for help. Nate has been feeling lots of guilt not only because he survived the mission but because he and Ali shared one hot night together while she was grieving. He can’t turn his back on her so he and the others help to track down who’s been following Ali as they attempt to keep her safe. Overall a really fun story with lots of action. I did find some of the slang a little annoying but I was able to get over it and just enjoy the story. I’m glad I found a new series and I’m excited to jump in to the rest of the books.

~ 5 Hell On Wheels Stars ~
I am not a big contemporary reader and when I do pick up a contemporary read it’s usually a so so book. I have only found one other author that has blown me away and pulled me completely into the story. Julia Walker is now the second contemporary author that I will be keeping an eye on and reading.
Hell On Wheels is book one in the Black Knights Inc. series by Julia Ann Walker. I piked this series up, because everyone was giving the latest release good reviews, so I decide to check it out and I am so glad I did. We have special blacks ops type guys, bickers, suspense, and romance.
JWalker does a fantastic job pulling you into the story. I was swept away. WOW! I love that the couple Ali and Nate have a past history together. It really makes the romance/relationship that is growing that much more believable. Yes they have obstacles to over come, but that just helps bring them together and boy when they come together they light the sheets on fire. The sexual tension is off the charts and the sex was hot. The writing is excellent, flowing smoothly, and keeping the story plot going at a nice pace. All the characters are interesting and unique. I can’t wait to learn more about the guys of the Black Knights Inc. as they each get their own story. JWalker also sets up for the next couple in the series. I like how everything is put together. Friendships, relationships and more.
If you are looking for a tale that will have you laughing one moment and wiping tears the next then this book is a must. Its fast paced keeping you hooked from the first to last page.
