“Humanity seems doomed to do more evil than good. The greatest ideal on earth is human love.”

A beautiful book about a terrifying time. Highly recommend to anyone looking to see the life of a Jewish survived outside of the concentration camps.

At the time that I chose to read this, I did so because it seemed like a quick read. It dragged and dragged so much for me that it took me MONTHS to force myself to read it. It IS a remarkable story but the first three quarters of the book just seemed redundant. I will say that the last four chapters were exciting to read.

i cannot, in good conscience, give the pianist a rating or talk about it as i would any other book, so i'll just say: read it. the book is less than 200 pages long, yet i cannot even put into words how eviscerating it was.

The title honestly says it all: a truly extraordinary story told by a great story teller.
