A nice and light-hearted children's book following two kids becoming friends despite their families being sworn enemies.
I would love an adult version of this story exploring their personalities and family dynamics. Maybe in a more grimdark setting, especially with all those magical creatures in the forest 😊

One of my all-time favorite books, even at age 50.

I actually watched the Studio Ghibli version of this before I read it, and I loved it. I was surprised to find that they were extremely true to the book, and I loved it as well. It's a good story - satisfying, adventurous, magical, honest, and tender, and it was a pleasure to read aloud. I wish I had read it as a child, but I'm really glad my kids have Ronia in their consciousness.

This is my favorite of Astrid Lindgren's books -- a strong, likeable heroine, lots of nature and the woods, a bit of humor and romance. I've never wanted to be Pippi, but I might like to be Ronia . . .

One of my favorites as a young person, definitely a book that I read and re-read many times. Astrid Lindgren is brilliant, and although this is somewhat different than the work she's better known for, it is an excellent read.
