It was good but I wish someone taught him or the book showed why he was suddenly able to do it. I get that he practiced but it didnt really show him trying different things until he got it, just the same thing.

Any book that allows me to showcase my whistling skills is top-notch. Also, this book concerns a Black/African-American family living in an urban neighborhood. Books that depict people who may look like my son or his non-white family belong on our shelf.

I love Keats and seeing further adventures of Peter.

Sweet book and Linnea really enjoyed "woofing" for Willie on every page and trying out her whistle. Doesn't have the same quietness of 'A Snowy Day' which can be either a good thing or not depending on if you are trying to get a busy toddler to sleep or not! Ultimately, 'A Snowy Day' is still tops in our house, but I enjoyed reading this one by Ezra Jack Keats as well.

This is one of my childhood favorites, in no small part because Willie looks just like the dog I had when I was little.

Peter sees someone whistle and their dog comes running. Peter thinks of the fun he and his dog Willie would have if only he could whistle. Peter practices and practices - in a box, on the street, even in his father's hat. Does practice make perfect?

A charming tale about persistence. Listed as a companion book to The Snowy Day [b:The Snowy Day|310258|The Snowy Day|Ezra Jack Keats|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1173627696s/310258.jpg|51286].

Who knew how important the ability to whistle would be to a child and a dog?

For Peter it was everything. He really, really wanted to know how to whistle so that he could get his dog, Willie to come to him, like he saw another boy and his dog playing together.

So…

He practiced and he tried and he did everything he could to learn how to whistle.

And then…

(No spoilers from me.)

The story is simple. The images are striking and drawn with colorful brushstrokes of an active city life.

And of course…

A boy’s love for his dog.
