i loved machado’s footnotes and how much more i learned about this world. i would’ve loved a book alone about the creatures in the forest.

After having read Hungerstone earlier this year, I knew I needed to actually read the source material after only being vaguely familiar with it. Of course, when I saw that this edition not only included beautiful illustrations but was also edited by Carmen Maria Machado I was even more excited. Machado adds so so much to this story not only in their intro but also in the footnotes. It elevated my reading experience by 10 fold. I also simply love lesbians and vampires so, this was a good time for me.
