I'm not usually the type to read about gangsters and the prohibition era, but it has always interested me, and this was a great way to get started. Really enjoyable and a great read. But keep in mind, certain events that Collins creates for her characters can make you cringe.
Gino is a fascinating characters, an anti-hero that you can't help but love, even when he's being a d**k. His daughter is just as head strong, somewhat uncouth, but smooth and graceful in her own way. The way the story is split, Gino's time in the 20s, 30s, 40s and Lucky's in the 70s, it was a great way to develop the story with out having the events spoiled.

HOW IS THIS CHICK LIT?
LIKE SERIOUSLY? HOW?
I just no, no, no, no...
What a depressing read. Are all her books like this?!

So this book was in my random donated book pile and chose it as it was one book that matched the Feb theme: books that are on screen but with a different title (The Show Being Lucky Chances)
The first few chapters were intense, and I was not sure if this was a book I wanted to read....but it was so suspenseful that I just wanted to keep finding out what happened.
It had love, gangs, money, and cops and was just a lot. Well written. I stayed up hours just wanting to find out the next thing. I would happily read another Jackie Collins book.

Fast-paced, engaging, well-developed characters. Unexpected plot twists. Ahh, Gino... maybe I wouldn't have liked him if I didn't understand where he came from and WHY he became the man he did.... Lucky... who doesn't love a kick butt, take no prisoners gal? Was relieved that father and daughter reconciled in the end. Wish Dario would have had a chance to redeem himself....
Could have done w/o the gutter talk.
Overall, a better than average read.

This is my second time reading this. The first was when I was a teenager, and I gave it a 5 (I was being a lot more liberal with my five star ratings then). I was looking for some real escapism given everything that's going on, and this did not disappoint. It's a lot raunchier than I remember it being, and I did a decent amount of cringing, but overall it was enjoyable and a fun getaway.

I can’t recommend this book to anyone who hasn’t already read JC and knows exactly what their getting into. But if you’re like me, and was obsessed with these books as a teenager (preteen???) and are wondering if they hold up in any way the answer is in some ways yes, but in other predictable ways, absolutely not. But it’s been years since I read a book this long, this fast. The pacing is impeccable.
