Rather a ridiculous, unbelievable story. I would never have finished it if I weren't listening to it on CD.
medium-paced
Mostly an enjoyable read, despite a few plot twists and additions that felt like filler and stalling -- only to have the Rose-Harry and Beckett-Daisy storylines wrapped up in the last seven minutes.
Again Davina Porter's narration was great.

Thank God this was the last in the series. It was a sappy romance and more of a soap opera than a mystery. As I said, thank God it's finished.

4th of 4 in the series, free from Audible. With this last one, I grew weary of the sort of infantile jealousy and pig headedness of the lead character. Just too much.
4 STARS
"Lady Rose Summer, the wayward Edwardian debutante who keeps getting mixed up in disreputable adventures, would swear she is not a jealous woman. After all, she knows her engagement to private detective Captain Harry Cathcart is only a ploy to keep her parents from shipping her off to India. But then Harry+s latest client, Dolores Duval-a vision of curves with a seductive French accent-starts appearing everywhere at his side....In a fit of rage, Rose threatens Dolores, only to be found the very next day, standing over her dead body. The newspapers rush to convict her, but can Harry and Detective Superintendent Kerridge clear her name?" (From Amazon)
Ack! This is the last book in the series and I am sincerely sad. I love Rose and Harry in this brilliant cozy romance/mystery.

I've been reading this series super slowly over the past couple years (read the first one in September 2018). It's fun and free (on Hoopla), and it's nice when I just want something period and simple and short. Since this is the last book of the series I expected it to finally resolve some of the plot-lines. But it was so frustrating! It didn't resolve anything until the last THREE MINUTES! (maybe spoiler?) On the whole, I found it a pretty unsatisfying conclusion. If the goal of the series was to show how messed up the patriarchal society of the Edwardian era was, then it succeeded.
