🇬🇧: I found this one on a market and I went in it without any assumptions. The story was interesting and it was nice to see the connections between the cases and how it comes to life. My brain wanted to make connections before the detectives in the story did. Beside this I thought the cases where a bit vague. It didn't have to take this long. It wasn't a bad book, but i expected more from it!

Talking, talking, talking...
A crime that makes little sense--or its explanation does.
Just tell us Benton's back with the FBI, Kay is in charge of yet another organization, Marino has new authority/responsibility. Just state all of that at the beginning of a book like you normally do and skip this mess altogether.

Huh. I am surprised I actually liked this book. That is really sad, but her last few have seemed...off. There was none of the feeling that I have had with them, that "what the hell is going on with her characters???"

The story is told well, with basis in VERY current events. The ending was unexpected (well for me it was anyway) and I found it to be well paced.

I used to could not wait for a new Kay Scarpetta novel to come out. The last few have been very disappointing, though. I have a hard time following them. The story line jumps around a lot. But I still keep reading them - after all these years of reading about Kay I feel like I would be abandoning an old friend if I quit.

I'm counting this book as read because I suffered through over half the damn book then skimmed to the end to find out what happens.

I am so disappointed in this book. Where so much could have been done. But no. We have Kay being whiny about the cfc not being run right in her absence.

YOU WERE GONE. AND DIDN'T CHECK IN EVER. FOR MONTHS.

sorry for the yelling but damn. Shut up already. What happened to kick ass competent Kay?

Then we have the character I have despised since he came back from the dead which is where the hell he should have stayed. I hate Benton. My hatred started in his first book back. And now, it's even worse. He's so secretive, manipulative, and condescending at times. I stopped reading and started skimming when he admitted he knew Fielding was using Kay's office and didn't bother telling her. And didn't bother telling her all the shit that was wrong with the cfc. What a scumbag! Why oh why Patricia did you have to bring him back?? Kay was better off with him dead.

Ok rant about Benton over.

Frankly this book was too long, too wordy, too everything. Which is a shame bc the scarpetta books where so good in the beginning. I'll keep reading because I own them all and hope they get better.

As an audiobook, I enjoyed this much more than her other books (as of late). The annoying characters (Marino, Lucy and Benton) didn't seem quite as annoying. Although I still don't care for any of them.

Scarpetta is working in Dover, fulfilling her obligation for accepting a military scholarship for college. Scarpetta is called back to the CFC when Lucy and Marino fly in to get her because a body in her morgue has suddenly started bleeding. What starts as something innocuous and simple turns into a drama-filled mess with Jack Fielding, her deputy in chief, the FBI and the government.

The book is fairly fast paced and only spans a day or 2 in Scarpetta's life. Although I have been disappointed in the last few Scarpetta novels, this one cheers me and makes me hope we're back on the right path.

The scientific and foresnsic knowlede are on point in this book, as with all of the others. There is no denying the research that Patricia Cornwell puts forth on this. The cases and the solving of them are very interesting, and I wish that there were more moments dedicated to that as opposed to moments where Marino is being boorish and Lucy is being her ridiculous self. The end of the book itself, perhaps the last 100 pages or so, was the most vital part of the book, but I wasn't really happy with the ending. I am really over everyone acting like Kay is the most amazing person to ever walk the planet. It is not possible for her to be that perfect, nor Benton. Benton is all the things in the world, but forthcoming isn't one, yet it seems like he is the perfect man. No, thanks.
