I love Greg Iles. Like Dan Brown, he creates complex characters both likeable and loathsome, intricate plots, and intense well researched realistic components that are unnerving.

The premise is true evil (killing people with biological weapons simply to avoid paying out a huge divorce settlement). The story could have been half the length it was.

Quite disappointed by this one, which is the third I've read from this author. Not all that well plotted, spelling mistakes (come on), poor use of computer terminology.
Not awful, but not that good. Much preffered the other two I'd read.

A pleasant murder-mystery/thriller. Not as intellectually gripping as some of his others, but still good.

After reading the description of this book, I was prepared to fall in love with it. But, sadly I ran into many things that i didn't like early on in this book.I always hate it when authors continuously associate the south with racism. I just feel like that topic is sort of getting old. The book would be just as good without the inclusion of it. Also, I found Alex to be completely annoying. It's as though the author tried to craft the most stereotypical 'tough girl cop' he could come up with from her mother's disappointment in her not being ladylike to her dislike for so called 'dumb blondes.' It's so unoriginal that it's actually annoying. I'm so sick of seeing story lines where there's one tough girl(Alex) who has no girl friends(i.e Alex's dislike of Thora, her relationship with her mother, etc.) but she has all of these strong males around her(her father, Chris, Kilmer, Kaiser). It's so unrealistic and I feel like it portrays women as evil somehow. I also don't like the little pseudo-romance that starts to happen between Chris and Alex near the end of the book. It's completely unrealistic. Clearly Christ prefers the beautiful type and Alex has the deformity on her face, so he clearly wouldn't go for her. It's also made clear that Chris is a bad judge of character, so it's unrealistic that he would go for someone who is a good person, like Alex. That being said, the storyline of the book was extremely interesting. It did keep me guessing right up until the end.

At times, I thought this was a bit out there, but it was still a great read. I really enjoyed the steady pace too.
The only thing I'm going to nitpick at is near the end, Jamie was being referred to as Ben An easy mistake, but one still pretty noticeable.

Last year I read the Natchez Burning trilogy and enjoyed all three books very much. Since then, I have picked up several other Greg Iles books, and recently decided, on a whim, to listen to True Evil on audible since it was read by my favorite narrator, Dick Hill. I was not disappointed! The book was fast paced, which seems to be a trait Iles books share, and the story was compelling. I also enjoyed the cameos by characters I had read about in the Natchez trilogy. Being from Louisiana myself, I think the setting enhances my enjoyment of these books, but I think anyone would enjoy them. I highly recommend this book!

I listened to this book on audio and it was hard to stop listening. I normally listen when I drive and as I got closer to the end I wanted to keep driving. Almost from the beginning, you know who was plotting the murders and how they were done. The only thing missing was proof.
How do you prove that someone was killing by cancer - it was almost foolproof unless you get between an FBI agent and her dead sister's son.
Greg Iles does an amazing job of keeping his readers engaged. You can't put the story down because you NEED to know how it will end. The ending is particularly satisfying and well worth the wait to get there.
The narration on the audio book was great. A good narrator helps the story come to live and in this case he outdid himself in the reading.
