This book gave me whiplash in the best possible way! There were so many twists and turns from the very beginning, and I spent the entire book trying to figure out who was trustworthy and what was going to happen next. The dragons are fantastic, and the book turned in so many directions I was not expecting. There’s a reason this series has a chokehold on so many people, and I already know I am going to tear through Iron Flame!

Review after the fact because read this before I had a storygraph account: What a great first book of the series!! While there were a few grammatical errors, and I didn't always love the writing structure, I feel this will be such a good story! I am excited for book 2!

I actually dislike this narrators performance. I enjoyed the book, but fucking hell this narrator should have been replaced. Reread for Onyx Storm but can't reread Iron Flame after realizing how awful this narrator is.

I was a little hesitant about this at first because it was giving Divergent but it picked up. I like that Violet didn’t always win everything, that she had to fight past her joint issues and/or find other ways to win, I hate when FMC ace everything because they’re ~so skilled~ and ~so powerful~ (I’m looking at you Aelin). Some twists I saw coming and some I didn’t. Good spice, good action.

A good combo of girl bossing and giggling/kicking my feet romance. Excited for the next one!

Loved this book 

This book made me love fantasy again. There were a couple twists and I don’t feel like any of the characters are super safe. It’s an interesting premise and doesn’t shy away from the realities of the fantastical land or fictional war that it’s set in. Violet overcomes a lot but also has realistic struggles. Lots of character growth from all sides in this story
