Oh my god, the use of actual Minecraft sounds killed me, also it was so funny having Jack Black as the narrator. I'm dying. Whether you're a kid or an adult Minecraft fan in need of a good chuckle, this book delivers. I originally read it because I won a copy through a Goodreads giveaway, but now I'm eager to explore the rest of the series. It's the perfect way to take a break from the darker, sadder books I typically enjoy.

What I truly appreciate is how the story portrays the protagonist as just an ordinary person, someone like you or me, who suddenly wakes up in the world of Minecraft with only fragmentary memories of the real world. It's evident that this is written by a genuine Minecraft enthusiast who tackles the same challenges every new player faces. The dilemmas of hunting animals for food versus farming, the choices of blending into the landscape or building a flat base, and the perils of delving too deep into mining.

I had low expectations since most of the Minecraft themed books are pretty awful, but this was a surprisingly wonderful book! Dude wakes up in the water and doesn't understand why the sun is square or his arms are log shaped, and tries his best to figure things out and survive. As a standalone story, someone without any exposure to Minecraft would probably still enjoy it. The main character is trying to answer life's questions like "why am I here?" and find purpose in the world. It's got solid real-world advice in each chapter that the character learns through trial and error. I listened to the audiobook, voiced by Jack Black (!!!) and it was fantastic. If you get the chance to listen while you read, Jack Black brings it to life in a fun, unique way.

It was a solid three stars, it honestly is good if you're getting into Minecraft and stuff but I've been playing for years so I'm not the audience, I was most interested in the other books in the series. But I'm not a heathen so I'm reading them in order

Listened to the audio book. Probably 10 million times better than the upcoming movie will ever be. Genuinely a funny and good book.
