Minecraft: The Island by Max Brooks

5.0

I had low expectations since most of the Minecraft themed books are pretty awful, but this was a surprisingly wonderful book! Dude wakes up in the water and doesn't understand why the sun is square or his arms are log shaped, and tries his best to figure things out and survive. As a standalone story, someone without any exposure to Minecraft would probably still enjoy it. The main character is trying to answer life's questions like "why am I here?" and find purpose in the world. It's got solid real-world advice in each chapter that the character learns through trial and error. I listened to the audiobook, voiced by Jack Black (!!!) and it was fantastic. If you get the chance to listen while you read, Jack Black brings it to life in a fun, unique way.
