Colton and Shelley's story is gritty and raw, steamy and believe it or not, sweet. These two are opposites in many ways, but the same in many more. They each hide behind different masks but deep down they just want someone to see their true self.

I absolutely love Colton King! He's so much more than the easy going Joker. Getting to know his backstory helps to see how he became the man he is. When he meets Shelley, he has truly found his other half. She's a force to be reckoned with! I love the banter between them! Shelley holds her ground and fights back with Colton, which he's not used to. Once these enemies finally let down their guard, get ready for the feels! We find that Colton has a big heart and that Shelley does too. They just get one another and see past their masks. The steam in this book is beyond compare. Whew! Get ready to fan yourself and melt. The side characters, and of course the rest of the soldiers, really make this story epic!

Be ready for dark pasts, banter for days, sexy scenes, and of course, Colton’s one liners.

While I love this series so far, this one while thoroughly enjoyable didn't hit the top of the series list for me. Don't get me wrong is there anything that beats a J/P hero who falls first and HARD? Not really. I think I just wanted this to be a bit grittier. Shelly was a totally bada$$ though and I loved her instantly. Overall I really enjoyed this book and the plot within, as far as this series goes I just liked the others better. I still fully rec this though. I volunteered to read and review an early copy of this. All opinions are my own.

this was the best out of the three plot wise but it still felt meh, i really did try to get into it but I just did not connect fully like I thought I was going to with Colton. Colton and Shelly were hot af though, I needed more idk what but something. Will after the halloween party had me dead though lmao the way he walked out of the chapel mid session to figure out how to apologize lol I cant

despite having a hard time getting into the story, I managed to get attached to the characters by the end. I absolutely loved Colton’s character

“I need you like I need my next breath. It will always be you.” This was incredible! I loved reading about Colton’s back story and how it molded him into the person he is. I’m so glad that Shelley was a the strongest most badass FMC and that she made Colton work for it! Colton and Shelley are like meeting fire with fire. Or as Nikki says, Shelley is the bomb and Colton is the detonator.
As someone who is married to a Gemini, the damn epilogue had me tearing up. Ever single book in this series is gold. The spice is always so well-written and intense in the greatest ways.
Nikki, is an instant buy author for me. No questions about it.

Oh the Joker

When the world shows you how cold, calculating, and cruel it can be trust it because that is how life goes especially for those who grew up like the soldiers in Briton Manor did. These group of guys have no mercy for those who are cruel or cowardly. They have no patience for those who do horrible wrongs or even for those whose wrongs may be a small infraction. They each bring something different to the table and make up this great dynamic that is a force to be reckoned with and as each story is unfolded wee see deeper than the masks that this cruel world has allowed them to wear for so long and none of them has perfected the mask in place as well as Colton King their very own Joker. For Colton life looks like it’s a breeze, that nothing phases him, and it’s all joke. What most won’t see is the other side of that mask where in his own twisted way he is Robin Hood of sorts that wants to right the wrongs done by those who destroyed his and other’s life. This Joker may have the laughs and the fear that he inflects in others, but he also has a heart of gold that you see when he does anything for all those he loves. When fate brings into his life the spitfire that is Shelley, he knows his perfectly crafted world and mask will never be the same. As these two cross paths and end up working side by side you wonder if they will end up annoying each other to death or burn with the heat and passion that brews between them. Shelley was a tough one that could put up with Colton and his antics while also giving it right back at him. With their banter the thing that makes everyone smile to Colton this drives his need to have her always up with an intensity. I knew before going into the Joker’s story that he would be the one to steal my heart and don’t get me wrong all our boys have their spots their but Colton’s heart and easy façade he displays really gripped me. Shelley, I did love even if times I found her tenacious stubbornness irritating. I did love that she would hold her own against Colton, yet when time again he kept showing her that heart of his she kept shoving him away while cutting him down which was cruel in an already cruel world. Overall, this group of guys are amazing and will do anything to protect their own and The Joker will steal the spotlight as always while in the background lending a hand to someone who needs it while also bashing some heads that may deserve it when it’s necessary. “We all wear masks in our lives, something we can hide behind that helps us cope and protects us from the harsh realities of life.”
