This short picture book was delightful to read and brings you back to your youth. The mini adventure it takes the character on and back is just right for younger readers. The illustrations were very eye catches, with the few objects really pop in a bright color. It would be useful in the classroom for kindergarten and first grade and following up the next day asking the children if they made any connections to the book at home on a dark night. I really enjoyed reading it.

Beautiful illustrations, rich in detail. The rhythm and the repetition is magical. The magical story is wonderful and a bit mysterious

Awesome illustrations, I can see why it won the Caldecott. I love the use of the color yellow on each page and how the story begins and ends with the same line. C.2008, genre-concept

Gorgeous unique illustrations and a fun contemporary twist on traditional nursery rhyme structure.

Beautifully illustrated and imagined example of a classic poetic form.

A bedtime cumulative tale, beautifully illustrated. There is little text, which builds up and the recedes. The magic lies in the illustrations that are full of detail (black and white). Golden orange highlights certain parts of each illustration.

Illustrated by Beth Krommes.

Caldecott Medal Winner 2009.

A Caldecott Award Winning book. Yeah whatever. No real story, not very interesting text and nice pictures that I didn't appreciate.
