Scratch board art. Alternative to "Goodnight Moon".

As I was reading I couldn't help but think how much the illustrations reminded me of Van Gogh's Starry Night, and wouldn't you know it... There was a place in the story where the bedroom in the house had Starry Night hanging on one of its walls.

Enchanting book like a layered candy. It's sparse but pretty and soothing. Good read for bedtime. Or tripping, probably.

A wonderful telling of the nursery rhyme 'This is the key of the kingdom'. Naming nighttime things that are both comforting and intriguing - a key, a bed, a book, a light, the moon - this timeless good night book illuminates a reassuring order to the universe.

A beautifully illustrated bedtime story. Definitely worthy of the Caldecott.

This book follows simple wordplay to take the reader on a journey of imagination and wonder. I loved the illustrations--it's no wonder that it won the Caldecott Medal--and I especially liked watching the illustrations build off of each other based on the text. Entertaining and beautiful.
For: readers who want a book with textual patterns or a book that applauds imagination.
Possible red flags: some readers may not enjoy the whimsical/fantastical elements or find the book too simple.

Reminiscent of Goodnight Moon-- beautiful illustrations and lyrical text. This would make a good Christmas present for Baby James.

Black, white, and gold illustrations are effective. I like the way the story is told zooming in and then zooming out.
