Ugh...these covers are a bit much...
I like the overall story behind the series- engineered beings, fighting for equality and existence. Bit heavy on the 'mating' but I guess that's not a surprise.

I think this was just too much raunchy sex for me. I prefer my stories naughty instead of pornographic.
I also wasn't a big fan of the domination, nor did I understand or believe the change in feelings in the main characters.
I guess really what I would have preferred was far less graphic sex and more character development.

Hm.
I wanted to like this book - I read it years ago. On a reread, by review went down. Editing weirdness... and no notice at all of themes of dominance, including pain seen as sexy. Use of anal sex as dom/sub ... I just couldn't connect with the whole thing. The series has some good points, but I think the pain/anal thing is just a deal breaker for me. Angsty, with a lot of kinda naive bordering on stupid heroines. Emotional connected between the main characters is ... odd. Not my cuppa.

This book was so ridiculous that it actually made me laugh, so even just for that it totally deserves 3 stars. mind you, i'm not sure that was the effect the author had in mind, but still... :)
Another point in its favour is that it is honest, it's not written as if it were a poiem, but it just admits that it's slutty guildy pleasure reading, so another thumbs up for that.
Overall, fun read, a palate cleanser after some 'heaviver' reading, I do certainly advice you to read it if you're into this kind of novels

So I consider myself pretty well-versed in smut. I've gone through a pretty thorough gambit of everything from menage to alien sex slaves. And even I found the shear amount of sex in this book a bit overtaxing. Additionally, I think the word "cream" has totally been ruined for me.

Despite that, I did end up liking the book more than I thought I would. I found the heroine a little TSTL and annoying, but besides her, I thought the characters and plot were interesting. I probably could have used a bit more non-sex plot to balance out all mating, though.
For me, I think the story of Sherra and Kane seems much more appealing than Callan and Merinus in this one, and I'm definitely interested in continuing in the series to find out what happens with them. So while this may not be a perfect book, it did interest me enough to read more.

I very much like this series. I have literally been breezing through it and like how Lora Leigh is able to create an entirely new species and make it believable. I am now on book 11 of this series and can say without a doubt that she is able to make the story flow and continue without a problem.
In Tempting the Beast, we are introduced to a new world where the a group called The Genetics Council that is made up of very powerful people, were able to splice animal DNA with that of a human's and create a new species. The character development is amazing and I like how the characters still stay true to themselves no matter the dangers they face.
The only warning I would give is that if you don't enjoy novels with dominating males, then this series is not for you. There are both male and female Breeds (the animal human mix) but because of the animal instinct, the males always feel the need to dominate their women at some point of the novel.

This one was very difficult to review. I just think this one was not my type of genre.

This is one of my favorite series and I have read this for the 4th time since I found this series. The author caught me with her imagination. As a biology student, I can understand cloning and splicing which is what it it. Some scientist splice the DNA of a human and animals and make them born.
It makes you ask if you make a clone of somebody, does the clone has rights or is he just an experiment. Its a moral dilemma. Some people think that such abomination should be killed and some think that its fascinating and he has the right to live as he wishes.
The hero Callan has the characteristics of a Lion and human. He escaped the facility where they were kept and tortured. His pride has about 2 women and 3 men. Each of them have different animal characteristics. The heroine Merinus is a journalist sent to talk with Callan so that the world knows about them. At first they have no idea that there are more like them out there.
I love the courting between Callan and Merinus. It is also fun to read the interaction between her and her brother Kane. Then there is a betrayal among the pride which makes it hard for Callan. Towards the end of the book, he goes public about their kind, kills the betrayer and marries Merinus.
After reading this book, the author got me hooked on the series. I loved some of the books and some of them were ok. But overall, it is one of my favorites to read. FYI, it is an erotic novel.
