This book got off to a slow start, but by about halfway through I found myself more invested in the dark tale than I expected to be.

Something of a Foucaldian treatise in novel form, Borderliners tackles issues of normalization, discipline and "sickness" in a tense, quiet battle for survival. It gives rise to moments of tenderness and surprising violence in turn, and manages to be intimate, emotional and highly cerebral all at the same time.

A book I wish I had not started and once finished I'm glad I did read it. Schooling system that values people/kids by measuring time as a linear system will doom "the inbetweeners or borderliners" who do not adapt linear time concept. Some survive like Peter. : what is time : what's eternal and what's relative in it?

Slow pace at times especially at the end, though i can only speak for myself who is not a philosophy geek. Other than that, brilliant story! It really shook me when I realized that it was all a true story. Wow. I wish Goodreads would allow 5.4 stars.

the premise of time and strictness is not nearly as dramatic or uncommon as it is presented to be- but the beautiful philosophical imagery in part three makes up for this completely. i read this once in high school but did not think about it too much back then
