Something of a Foucaldian treatise in novel form, Borderliners tackles issues of normalization, discipline and "sickness" in a tense, quiet battle for survival. It gives rise to moments of tenderness and surprising violence in turn, and manages to be intimate, emotional and highly cerebral all at the same time.
