While reading a totally unrelated book, I came across a description of the Bloody Mary game (I'm sure we all remember cowering in front of a mirror, daring each other to chant those words). I was instantly thrown back in time, and this book came to the forefront of my memory. How could I have ever forgotten the girl in The Green Ribbon?! A must read! (Although, thinking back, I probably shouldn't have read this as young as I did)

No one does terrifying children's books quite like Alvin Schwartz. This book freaked me out as a child, and I find it pretty weird even as an adult.

Great book for Halloween, or simply as a tool to threaten small children with if they behave badly.

As a beginning reader, there weren't many scary book options, so I loved this collection of spooky stories when I was a kid. My favorite stories were/are "The Green Ribbon" and "The Night It Rained." The accompanying illustrations are spooky too.

I haven’t read this since I was a kid. It’s perfect for storytime with early elementary school age kids around Halloween! Super creepy and fun.

I got this book mainly for "The Green Ribbon" and "The Teeth". It's hard to come by quality scary stories these days, but the ones in these book were pretty good considering the grade level.

I found the audio on Youtube and listened to the entire thing. I hadn't rembered how young this book skewed. This book scared me so much as a kid. The Pirate one and one with the sweater really freaked me out if I thought about them too hard. I had a fear of dark rooms and graveyards for years after reading this. But The Green Ribbon made me fear the book itself. I couldn't touch it sometimes. The image of her head on floor just scared me to bits and I started thinking the book itself was evil and scary.
