I enjoyed the actual story but I did not care for the writing. I found it awkward and stilted. If the writing would have been better this would have been five stars for me since I did actually enjoy the story line.

As reviewed on my blog http://dineanddish.net/2013/01/connect-through-reading-9-book-reviews/:
I read Saving Max, by Antoinette van Heugten, in November and was immediately pulled in to the story. Max has Asperger’s Syndrome and because of lashing out and increasing agitated behavior, his mother has him temporarily placed in one of the most renowned institutions in the country for evaluation. While institutionalized, Max is accused of a murder his mother is certain he didn’t commit. Saving Max is an intriguing story, with a disturbing ending. There were a few parts of the book that I found hard to believe, but other than that I definitley recommend it if you are looking for a suspenseful read. I gave Saving Max 3 stars on Goodreads (I would have given it 3.5 if that rating was available).

Crap. Sexist (read "broad" 18 million times) camouflaged by a female attorney fighting for her son. A terrible, grossly portrayed psych thriller.

I’m just having mixed feelings lol. It took me FOREVER to get into this book-like until the last 100 pages. But on the other hand, the last 100 pages were soso good. I knew she was sus but she was CRAZZZYY!!!

I didn't even finish reading this book. The mother character so totally frustrated and angered me that I gave up.

Up until Part 3 of the book, I wasn't entirely sure I liked the book at all. Danielle, Max's mom, is one of the most annoying main characters in any books I've ever read.
The ending - giant cliffhanger - usually would've frustrated me to no end. But I thought it was quite fitting. It was a solid end to a book I wouldn't necessarily call solid.
I docked a star because of the style it was written and the countless Apple endorsements.

An interesting story and solidly written, though it reads like a script for a Lifetime movie.

I know this is fiction, but a lot of the story was unbelievable, especially the court trial. Also, I knew what was going to happen 60 pages into the book. It was entertaining and a fast read, but the author should of have done more research on the judicial system and criminal hearings.
