This was a very interesting book. I really appreciated seeing the world from Farah's point of view. I am planning to put this book on a teen nonfiction booklist, but also recommend it to adults.

Teenagers in our American Culture would do well to read this book as an eye-opener to the life of others around the world.

Hard book to read as we experience with Farah her arduous journey to America as a refugee. It’s a good book for all Americans to read but especially teens.

I'm training to be a volunteer at World Relief (the same refugee resettlement agency that Farah went through, actually) and chose this book to read as part of my X hours of training I needed. There's no way I ever would have picked it up off the shelf otherwise!
The writing quality wasn't amazing, but it was really interesting to read the whole story of her life first-hand. It's incredible how much she had been through.

It's very inspiring. It makes you think about what other people are going through in other countries and how spoiled (some of) us Americans are.

i like reading books by/about women in various parts of the world. this memoir was interesting because its author fled to the u.s. and wrote this book while in high school in suburban chicago.

This was an excellent book! We are looking into books for our next unit, and this will make a good read for our 8th grade students. Brings home what it’s like to live in a war zone, be a refugee, survive in another country, and learn to live your new life in a completely different country.

A really insightful look into a tragic, but probably fairly common life. She certainly has a lot of luck and I admire how she has managed to pull through so much and still move forward and be positive. Certainly she couldn't have without several people in her life, but I think that's what's so touching about this story. So many people in the right place at the right time allow for her to find a way out of her terrible life situations and to move on and to know that there are people like that is comforting.

This is an incredible way to learn about the life of Afghani immigrants. To hear it told from someone so young who has been through so much there is a simplicity and an eye opening affect. Truly amazing work.
