Odd Thomas is just so loveable and the story itself is thrilling, disturbing, but heartfelt and heartbreaking.

This may stand as my favorite Dean Koontz book and I’ve read most of them. He was my favorite author for awhile and I felt like this was one of his most unique tales. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t contain his usual tropes, but Odd Thomas really stands out. There is just something so... human... about it and the characters.

There’s a lot of supernatural aspects of it, some of which will make your skin crawl from time to time, but it’s not a horror story by any means. There’s plenty of comic relief too, particularly from Elvis the ghost. Yes... that Elvis... brilliantly written and so much character from a character that never speaks.

What really put this one over as a favorite of mine is the ending. There is so much foreshadowing and build it almost seems like it will be impossible to pay off. Then when you start seeing all the pieces fall into place you because fearful for the characters you know and love. It’s powerful, shocking, and emotional all the way through. This book is a must read whether you are a fan of Koontz or not.

Dabei habe ich ganz schön was verpasst!

I was so excited when I saw this book come across an auction for $1 that I jumped on it right away. I wasn't aware that the movie was based off a book, and since I love the movie I knew I had to read this. Then I discovered there's a series! But alas, I didn't love the book quite as much and had a hard time reading it. I think the reason for this is that I know the plot from watching it. And the book follows the plot, EXACTLY. Really, the movie follows the book exactly, but since I watched it first I think that ruined the book for me. Nevertheless, I will give an honest review on the plot. It's not Koontz fault that I watched the movie first. This book is written in first person as a memoir of sorts, with Odd looking back on an event. The actual plot is pretty cool, and the way Odd tells his story is entertaining. If you haven't heard of Odd Thomas, I recommend this book wholeheartedly. But if you've seen the movie, just know the book and movie are exactly the same. Nothing from the book was left out of the movie, no emotions that weren't portrayed, no missing characters. So if you've seen the movie, this book might be a let down.
