3.5 stars - I liked this way better than I thought I would.

It's the fourth I've read from the Virgin River series already and I can't bring myself to give more than 2 stars every time. I really like the main character of the first installment (Mel) who is pretty fleshed out, but after her story it's just the same story over and over again. This one does not fail to retell the same story. Woman loves man or man loves woman and is not loved in return until... well until they realize they are. One star for the entertainment (I am, after all, reading them) and one star for the effort in each book to slightly change the angle of the love story. But there's no depth in the narrative, no good writing, the story is always slightly misogynistic and even though there are attempts to build strong women, they always fall into the arms of stronger men. *Sigh* The classic "I need a no-brainer kind of literature book. And one that makes me happy to have Daniel Pennac's fifth commandment handy (in the Imprescriptible Rights of the Reader): "The right to read anything."

I listened to Second Chance Pass by Robyn Carr on Audible Escape.

Fresh off telling my buddy Amy Novelgossip that I needed a bigger update on Mel & Jack, Robyn give it to us! Although they are not the main characters in Second Chance Pass, we get some big updates on our favorite couple & I love every minute of it.



Second Chance Pass is the ultimate second chance romance. We get not only one, but two, second chance romances. I just about squealed by my damn head off! I love it.

Therese delivers the narration once again. All the characters are brought to life. All of the Virgin River stories are great, but this one has a special place in my heart. Robyn writes some deeper & emotional stuff that even days later, I'm thinking about.

I love this series so much & can't wait to keep listening! All the stars.

I loved the first 4 books in this series. This book was awful. The characters were whiny and very hard to love and she’s change the way she writes Jack and Mel. I’m not sure if I’ll try the next book or not. So disappointing.

Every Virgin River book is just as good if not better than the last. I just love how Robyn Carr keeps us involved with original characters, but we also grow to love and be invested in other characters as well.

Part of what I love about reading is the ability for a book to pull you in and transport you to a different world. The Virgin River series does a good job of doing this even though they are generally plot driven stories. Why I mention this in this review is that it is dream worthy to imagine having a big newly built ranch by the river like Walt Booth made in this great little town with a growing group of all these cool people. I like the transformation of the relationship between Vani and Paul, I like the growing relationship between Walt and Muriel and the continuing story lines with all the ever-growing crew. These books are hardly perfect but the series is so comfortable and enjoyable to read. 4*

There wasn’t really much of a plot? Also, it’s very obvious that the author is of a certain age by the way she talks about women. Oh and it’s uncomfortable how many people of varying types of relationships call each other “honey”.

Wenn zwei sich lieben, sollte eigentlich alles gut sein. Aber so einfach ist es hier leider nicht. Vanessa ist gerade erst Witwe geworden als auch schon die Wehen einsetzen und ihr Sohn Mattie das Licht der Welt erblickt. Da sie vor kurzem nach Virgin River gekommen ist, befindet sie sich immerhin im Kreise der Familie, die ihr Trost und Geborgenheit gibt. Ein weiter großer Beistand ist der beste Freund ihres verstorbenen Mannes: Paul. Paul ist über die Jahre auch ihr ein guter Freund geworden. Paul ist Exmarine und hat einige Zeit mit Matt gedient. Auch ihn belastet der Tod seines Freundes schwer. Paul und Vanni versuchen sich daher gegenseitig Trost zu spenden. Während die Zwei Zeit miteinander verbringen, beginnt Vanni Gefühle für Paul zu haben. Anfangs verbietet sie sich diese, weil ihr Anstand ihr sagt, dass sie doch gerade erst Witwe geworden ist. Ihre Familie und ihr Herz jedoch sagen ihr, dass Matt ihr seinen Segen geben würde. Somit beginnt Vanni mit kleinen Schritten der Annäherung. Paul jedoch hat nur einen Gedanken: gehen. Er kann sich nicht vorstellen mit Vanni eine Beziehung zu haben. Denn obwohl er sie liebt, hat er das Gefühl seinen toten Freund Matt zu betrügen. Um seine Gefühle zu betäuben, trifft er sich mit einer alten Freundin und verbringt die Nacht mir ihr. Als diese ihm dann kurz darauf mitteilt schwanger zu sein, ist das Chaos perfekt.

Dies war wieder eine schöne Reise in den Ort Virgin River. Wieder habe ich alte Bekannte getroffen und neue Gesichter kennengelernt. Vanni ist eine starke, starrköpfige aber sehr liebenswerte Frau. Ich habe sie für ihre innere Stärke bewundert: hochschwanger und dann zu erfahren, dass der Mann im Einsatz gestorben ist, dass muss hart und schmerzhaft sein. Umso schöner war es für sie einen Freund wie Paul zu haben. Zuverlässig, stark und die Beiden teilen viele schöne Erinnerungen an Matt. Die ganze Zeit möchte man, dass sie endlich zusammen kommen und glücklich werden, aber ständig passiert etwas oder sie stehen sich selbst im Weg. Dieser fünfte Band bietet wirklich alle Emotionen und viele Facetten die das Leben zu bieten hat. Mitreißend erzählt und einfach lebensnahe. Tolles Buch!
