3 Headache inducing Stars

*********May Contain Spoilers************
I do not know where to begin with this one, yes it gave me a headache but not the bad kind more the conflicted thoughts kind. The continual push/pull, like/not like YA crap is just not my cuppa tea. In saying that I really liked Caleb and Amber as a couple but god they were so FRUSTRATING!!!
I love a dark and mysterious Hero and I got that in spades with Caleb, when we are first introduced to him he secludes himself in his apartment with his art only leaving to go for runs or run errands. Caleb also does not talk, unless completely necessary which is not often. His whole world seems to change for the better when Amber enters it.
Amber, well lets just say I still can not decide weather I liked her or she annoyed me (see what I mean headache). Amber is instantly intrigued by her new mysterious neighbour and wants to learn all his secrets and if you read this you will too BUT you will not find out until the end, just giving a heads up. I am not going to deny the chemistry between Amber and Caleb was off the charts and even though there was no sex the waterfall scene was my favourite part it seemed really romantic and it seemed to be the turning point.

For me it needed more of that hot chemistry, there was only a couple of sex scenes and one of them was not consensual between one of the main characters and someone else. Trigger warning: there is a rape scene.

Such a good story.. Two broken people trying to mend each other.. A few things I didn't see coming and I wasn't sure how it was going to end.. I loved it!!!
I enjoyed the story line on this book but I really didn't like the characters. Amber was painful and needy. At times her dramatics were like someone much younger.
Caleb is emotionally crippled from his past, he was raised in a cult and sexually abused. After Amber goes through her own traumatic experience they connect. It was back and forth a bit, I like her... I don't deserve her... then bang, can't fight chemistry. I enjoyed the epilogue and how the story came together a few years into their future.

Holy smokes! Rachael Tonks is a new author to me, and man am I glad I decided to give it a try! This book was fantastic! It had all the feels. I was very close to tears a few times, on the edge of my seat with heart pounding at others. But it wasn't all heart-in-your-throat drama. There were also some really funny moments and some seriously romantic scenes.
Caleb is the mysterious boy next door who hardly ever speaks and keeps to himself. He only ventures out when he needs to.
Amber is this feisty, strong, confident girl who is intrigued by her neighbour. Why won't he talk to her? What happened to him to make him this way?
I love that we were kept guessing right up until the very end. I love the way the relationships between each of the characters developed and intensified. I really felt for the characters and the things that had made them who they were. I had a rough idea of what I thought was going to be the story behind Caleb, but I was shocked when we finally uncovered his past.
I'm not gonna lie, there are some really disturbing things in this book that may be a trigger for some people.
That being said, I loved this book. I will definitely be reading more from this author.
Blurb
Caleb
I’m a monster.
What I did in my past will forever haunt me.
I don’t deserve anything but pain after all I've done. No love. No happiness.
Knowing I didn't deserve love didn't stop me from wanting it. From wanting her.
The first time my eyes laid sight on her, I was captivated. As much as I try to fight the want, I can’t get her out of my head. She consumes every part of my mind.
I can’t stay away. I don't want to stay away.
But I know the minute she finds out about my past, about where I’ve been and what I’ve done, she will hate me.
Amber
Starting a new life in Portland with my best friend, I never expected to meet anyone. I didn't want to either. But then my path collided with his. The dark, steely eyed man that hides away from the world. Caleb is an absolute mystery, keeping everything locked away and hidden.
I need more. Want more.
He’s an addiction for me. A drug I can’t and don't want to withdraw from.
I'm determined to know all he's hiding.
When the fire of their passion collides with his hidden past, Amber must decide to let him endure the pain alone or burn with him.
