I usually love English mysteries but for some reason have just not warmed up to this series.

I've never watched Morse on TV, so I didn't have any expectations before I started reading this. The mystery was somehow too confusing in my opinion, but Morse is an interesting character, though a bit annoying sometimes. My favorite character was Quinn, who seemed like a good person. Maybe I'll try some other books from Colin Dexter someday.

This is such a little cozy, which is usually not my favourite genre. It tells the story of the academic Foreign Examinations Board at Oxford University where Nicholas Quinn works. Nicholas is deaf and can lipread. He lipreads that 2 staff are getting up to no good and gets killed for it. Inspector Morse to the rescue, bla bla. The whole time I have the tv actor's voice in my head when reading the dialogue of Morse. It was an okay book, but glad it's over

Another clever and gripping novel. For me there were a few too many twists and turns and I was left a little dissatisfied at the end.

I think this is my favorite Morse so far. The mystery was solved quite neatly - I wasn't left wondering about certain points of the plot. Nicholas Quinn's body was found at his home. He'd been poisoned by cyanide. The investigation focuses on his workplace as Morse tries to determine who was the last to see him alive. When did he actually die? And what was the possible motive? The suspects are plentiful and acting suspiciously. Quinn's deafness adds another layer to the mystery, and the investigators have to rebuild the events keeping that different perspective in mind.
