Fun, quick read. Heyerdahl tells an amazing true story in a humble, detailed, yet not boring manner. It felt similar to a book about camping and getting into nature, if camping and getting into nature involved 4,000 sea miles on a 9-log raft with 5 other guys.

If you'd treat it as a pure fiction story, it's really cool. But we shouldn't forget that it actually happened at the end of 1940s... And the Polinesian people were heavily affected also in a negative way by the colonies management... Maybe he wanted to paint this perfect idyllic picture. Loved the descriptions of fauna and flora. Personally hated the shark hunting descriptions, but this part I can understand as it was different times and I want to believe they had no other option. Overall, a great book if you like the Robinson Crusoe-like stories, would be even nicer probably to discover it at school

I wish they had 10 stars - the book deserves it.
Both the book and the story it's based on are absolutely exceptional! It's a hymn in praise of these intrepid, brave and bold young men who took a risk and managed to make the voyage that changed our perception of history of civilization. I admire their courage, determination, solidarity and strength. For me it's the best self-help book, a must read for those who want to become a leader.

My father recommended this book to me after I had just finished reading an extremely melancholic book, about which I told him as I moped and glided through the house.
It is an uplifting read, and offers a salute to the spirit of human resilience. The turn of events is gripping, which ensures that you are hooked at all times.
It's a pleasant read for a pleasant day.

This love story between and a man and his raft and their journey nearly 70 years ago doesn't end well for the raft.
This book is the true story of one man's unwavering belief in his theory of South Pacific migration from South America, and his willingness to risk his own life to prove it. Comes across as a true adventure tale, a thrill to read and hard to put down. Recommended!
