I received this book as an ARC & what an awesome surprise that was. Definitely started with some very dark things happening, but quickly had my attention. As all previous Kate Burkholder mysteries she is put in the position to try to solve a murder among the Amish community she grew up in but chose to leave. This was a very quick read for me as I wanted to see what the heck was going on. I really enjoy these mysteries as Kate has to work with so many different kinds of people to figure out what has happened. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and of course am looking forward to the next one too!!

I got this book as a free review copy.

I really like the Amish setting. In fact I felt that the Amish setting carried the book. The mystery was all fine and good but there wasn't enough suspense in the book nor did I feel that the characters were fully fleshed out. To me, this was an ok book with a fascinating backdrop.

Yes, again, another great read by Linda Castillo. This has to be my favorite series.

Of course, most of my notes were Amish words and phrases. But these books are so good I hardly had time to write down notes.

page 97 (plus other pages) - word of the book - pugilistic. The author used this word at least 3 times in a short amount of pages and again on page 261

page 157 - A young woman is raped and her mother says she must have done something to deserve it. I hate that.

And I learned about the Beachy Amish. I had no idea about them.

I am so happy that this series keeps going on and on. I can't wait for the next one.

I imagine it's inevitable that Castillo will eventually disappoint me, but that hasn't happened yet. This was #10 in her Kate Burkholder Amish murder mystery series, and I enjoyed it like all of the others.

Really liked this one. I figured it out pretty fast but there was still a bit of twists in there. Good mystery. But my god Burkholder, learn to watch your back!!

Another unputdownable book by Linda Castillo. I'm obsessed with the Chief Burkholder / Amish series. Fast read and a great mystery, even if I figured it out early. Not a complaint - it was still very enjoyable.
