An interesting premise that was well executed. Some predictable twists, but some that were surprising and made the story flow in new directions. Lots of emotional conversations between female characters involving graphic topics.
Graphic: Rape, Sexual assault, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide, and Grief

Hmmmm. They're starting to sound more and more alike. Similar phrasing, similar reflections, similar characters. Maybe I should read the next one with my eyes, not listen with my ears.... I used to rush to read these the moment they came out, but that enthusiasm is waning, darn it... 2.5

writing was very conventional; didn't flow well. The constant use of amish language followed by its translation didn't work for me.

Thank you to Minotaur Books for providing me with an advanced reader's copy.
I wasn't aware that this book was a part of a series. The author does reference past events from time to time but this book could definitely be a stand alone. I thought I had the mystery figured out by chapter 12 but the more I read I realized I was wrong. I found myself reading faster and faster toward the end of the book to get to the answer. I must say I didn't see it coming.
I felt the relationship between Burkholder and Tomasetti didn't add much to the plot. It was my least favorite aspect of the story but that could be because I haven't read Books 1-9. I plan to go back and read earlier books because I would like to know more about Burkholder's past-the good and bad.

I always enjoy these books, but that ending felt a bit hypocritical....

Well worth the wait. One of my favorite series and had to start right away knowing I'll have to wait another year for next. The audio was superb. Loved it.

I wouldn't consider this a standalone book, that being said I have read the entire series so far and am a huge fan of them. However, this was not my favorite. The mystery is good and there are a lot of twists and turns and they do a pretty good job of holding on to who committed the actual arson till the end but there was just something really troubling about this book. It was definitely darker than some of the others and the secrets and ways in which the Amish deal with things that happen in this novel really made me mad which may have been why I had so much trouble with it.
Overall I really like this series and I'm not disappointed I read this but it just didn't reel me in the way some of the others have.

The story was actually really interesting but the narrator almost made me quit listening. The way she did the males voices and the accents was awful. However, the actual plot was enough to keep me invested. I was continually thrown off by who was responsible for the killing and all the twists worked well. Since it was a standalone novel, I don't think I'll be reading anymore from this series, but I don't regret reading this one.
