Some fascinating stories about working with other creative people, and insights into doubts that a creative person might have. I listened to the audiobook and found Questlove to be an engaging narrator. I've been reading novels lately, so was probably looking for one overarching story, which this book was not about. I should probably look at biographies or articles.

I love this dude, just didn’t love the book. It has a pretty strong start, but for me it was way too long than it needed to be. I finished it because i read it as audiobook - Questlove is a great story teller and music samples between chapters or ideas worked great, but that was mainly it.

A guide to creativity that examines past creative endeavors and uses personal anecdotes as a way of looking at how we harness creativity, what it means to be creative, and ways to continue to be inspired. Some positive stuff here. I liked it.‬

I listened to this as an Audiobook...which is the only reason I finished it.

Questlove is a very engaging reader - and obviously has a great understanding the stories and thoughts he is speaking about. I really enjoyed hearing him talk about a topic for the 15-20 minutes it takes to relate a couple of thoughts and stories. But the book is 8+ hours of thoughts and stories that don't have much in common other than they happened to Questlove. Yes, 'creativity' runs throughout...yet that's a very loose concept and as Questlove makes clear is an innate human characteristic. One that needs practice and focus to develop...but something that permeates almost everything we do.

There are interesting and important points about creativity - and really how to go about achievement. Important, but they do not require the length of the book to distill.

Creative Quest needs substantial editing to be a book I'd recommend. I would listen to Questlove speak about details of his life again, but not for this long.

This book was a pleasant surprise. I tend to not like any "how to" books, which is what I assumed this was going to be but instead it was the opposite. Questlove talks about personal experiences of creativity and how everyone can express it in their own way. You have to listen to the Audiobook to get the full experience of this book.

Great insight into the creative process. If you ever think you want to be a creator in any field, read this and take notes.

I LOVED reading this book. The subject matter and style are unlike anything i've read previously and it definitely is a book I need to own. I appreciated Questlove's tone and conviction throughout the text and I could definitely tell he enjoyed writing the book as well. There were a few parts I considered to be a bit flat, but my creativity doesn't necessarily exist in the realm of creating music, so that definitely could play a roll in what I considered "flat". I immensely enjoyed Questlove sharing his own personal experiences, while encouraging the reader to persevere and enjoy the creative process. I learned a ton about myself in regards to my creative process and loved that I feel comfortable making changes to revise the journey to success. Overall, I would read this book again and would recommend it to readers who have a creative mind, enjoy creating, or in general are looking to explore their creative and innovative side.

The highest compliment I can give a book is to say I need my own copy so I can read it again. This is true with Creative Quest. There are so many tidbits and ideas that I want to remember that the only choice is to buy my own copy and highlight to my heart’s content.

If you only know Questlove from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon or as the drummer for The Roots, you probably are unaware of how mutli-passionate and intelligent he is. He’s a music aficionado, of course, but he’s also interested in visual and culinary arts. He hosts food salons! (I’m not sure how smart you have to be to host a food salon, but I’m relatively certain I’m not smart enough.) He teaches college classes. He DJs. He has written multiple books. Until reading Creative Quest, I had no idea just how many jobs Questlove holds down.

Creative Quest is like a conversation about creativity. By its nature, it’s one-sided, but I can easily imagine holding down the opposite side, throwing ideas back and forth about what it means to be creative, different ways to be creative, and how to keep the creativity flowing. This book is Questlove’s exploration into creativity: What it means, what it looks like, and how to keep it in one’s life.

4.5 stars. Inspiring collection of stories, mainly featuring musicians and chefs. The arrangement seems haphazard, but the stories are of reasonable length and the take-homes are solid.
