I'm going to separate this into two different parts: the case and the characters/story.
The Case: I definitely feel like the case took a backseat in this one. I was really grossed out while reading the victim's pov and honestly he deserved it. It was interesting to see the struggle Seong-Jae had while deciding what to do with the evidence he had but overall the case wasn't a big part of the plot, unlike in the past books.
The Character/Story: With Malcom sitting out for most of this book, it was heavily focused on Seong-Jae which was really interesting. He is a very mysterious character so it was nice to see more of his perspective. A lot of the story was introducing more about his past, but it left a lot more questions than answers.
The cliffhanger though.... WHAT IS HAPPENING????????

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a good job. Borrowed via Hoopla.
“The masks people wear when they’ve been so hurt they have to lock everything away aren’t the same as the masks psychopaths wear to function within the cage of social norms, even if they look similar on the surface. I don’t believe you’re a psychopath, Yoon. You’re just struggling to survive.”
This series took over my life.
I liked it. The tension between Malcolm and Seong-jae is killing me. I love Mrs. Leon-Khalaji but also please do not do this to me, I cannot stand it anymore. Sten wins the Best Character Of The Year Award. Arash DILF. Not many coherent thoughts in this review, gotta admit that.
To be honest, I had some issues with how violent and descriptive chapter 0 was. It felt a little too much. But I'm thankful for the author's afterwards—they do help with contextualising the scenes and the writing choices, and look at the book from different angles.
The writing is superb as usual
