Reread #2
Experiencing Seong Jae slowly falling for Malcolm is a thing of beauty
............
Reread
I wanted to bash these men's heads so bad. But I sill Stan them.
“Seong-Jae…”
He had never heard his name said that way. With such heartbreak, with such depth of feeling that surely he would drown in it....
“No,” he said, and the worl felt like glass shards piercing him. He pulled his hand free, stepping back, struggling to draw breath. “Malcolm, no."
Yes I finished another book in a couple of hours.
Yes I am obsessed
Yes, I will move on to book 5 at once.
Yes, I still STAN Mal and SJ.
SJ is just.....GAH! My poor baby need a hug!
Yes, I HATE that Mal's ex is back and living with him "platonically" because they are "just friends " but F@ucking hell Cole! DUDE!
Yes, the pining and the UST are off the charts. These guys....my heart just melts whenever they let their guard down towards each other.
Also, Mal baking for SJ....*cue violin*
Also also.... MAL YOU F@UCKING HORNY BASTARD. HOW COULD YOU! But.... I like you. Maybe.
ALSO³... SJ my dear.... you've got ALOT of baggage. But I like you too.
PS... #ladyblueballs are still in full effect. COLE YOU MEANIE!

Fuck him if he was not hyperventilating all because Malcolm Khalaji had said his name like it was a beautiful and painful thing. Like it was the string tying the pieces of Malcolm’s heart together, holding them all in one place.
Oooooooh Seong-Jae was going THROUGH it in this episode, and I loved every minute of it. They were separated for a lot of this, but I enjoyed the angst, and it made the moments when they WERE together so much more striking. I loved the developments in the macro-plot, and getting to know a little bit more about Seong-Jae and Malcolm's pasts. The bits with Seong-Jae especially are getting good. And I really do like that the author is taking the time to develop the secondary characters, like Stenson and the captain.
Spoiler
I'M SO PROUD OF SEONG-JAE for what he did with the Mitchell women case. REST IN PISS TIM. I really couldn't see it going any other way that would have left me satisfied. I'm so glad that SJ's foundations are being shaken like this, and even gladder that he went straight to Malcolm with his crisis of faith. It's obviously going to come back to bite him in the ass, but I'll enjoy it. Also, I'm honestly living for the dynamic with Seong-Jae and Gabi, and how tense and possibly ansgty things are going to get now that Malcolm and Gabrielle are romantically involved again. Or maybe moving in that direction. IDK. I just love seeing Malcolm and Seong-Jae yearn pathetically in each other's direction. Mutual pining is god-tier. The get well soup?? The cupcake?? Giving each other food as a love language is my jam.I will say, I'm still enjoying the writing, but the repetition of certain phrases is starting to get to me. The image of Malcolm as an old wolf is a great one but... say it less. Love Seong-Jae's strawberry bruise of a mouth but... SAY IT LESS.
Listened to the audiobook as read by Curt Bonnem; great performance again. On to the next!

sexual violence, incestuous thoughts, murder, blood, goreDamn boys, get it together!
This story is full of tension more than the rest because there is more inner turmoil to go with it.
Seong-Jae is having to go things alone while Malcolm recovers from his injuries under the care of his ex-wife (gah!). And neither of them benefit from the distance.
But there is always a case to provide them a bit of a distraction, otherwise, they would drive themselves insane with too much time to think.
Here’s hoping they start to get their heads out of their butts soon!

Seong-Jae is now my favorite.
Human interaction was a frustration on even a normal day, but today everyone and anyone seemed to scrape his nerves raw with sandpaper, until just talking to someone was enough to make his teeth grind.

I didn’t enjoy this as much as the last book in the series but it was gripping and interesting nonetheless.
Due to Malcom’s actions in the previous book he’s recovering at home while Seong-Jae takes center stage; he has a Murder to solve, feelings he doesn’t want and a trial to deal with. All in all, he’s not having a good time.
Some of my favorite things about this episode:
•We finally get more than just snippets of Seong-Jae’s past. We even get a name! I’m so freaking excited to see what’s to come.
•Seong - Jae repeatedly letting everyone know that Malcom “jumped in front of a moving vehicle” .
•Malcom baking Seong-Jae a cupcake just for him.
•I actually found myself really liking Malcom’s ex-wife, I’m hoping she gets her own arc in the story.
•Seong-Jae and Stenson’s friendship’s is everything I didn’t know I needed.
Things I wasn’t delighted with:
• I didn’t like what happened at the end between Malcom and his wife. It’s pointless and it’s just going to cause more pain. They’re so much better as friends!!
• Seong-Jae lying to Malcom. Though I can see why- it doesn’t mean I’m happy with it.
Overall a really good read. It was just as gripping as the previous novels in the series. It wasn’t perfect but I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to seeing where the plot and character ARCs are going.

3.75 with some editing and polishing this series could’ve been on a whole ‘nother level. Truly.
As is I still have some issues with it, but I can’t deny how much I love Mal and Seong-Jae, individually or together
I’m also finally into the overarching case that’s brewing here, and it’s finally consuming me enough to make me overlook some stuff
I’m really going to deeply regret this and become very obsessed with this, right? Yeah, I can see it now

I really enjoyed this one! I loved getting the majority of Seong-Jae's POV and inner workings trying to grapple with his morals while also understanding the realities of his job. There's a lot of things he has to work through and this felt like a case that may have not have been a "huge" or big drama filled one, but left S-J with a lot of internal turmoil and decisions to make on what kind of human he would be.
Malcolm and his wife need to cut it out with the MF sex scenes in my MM slow burn pining romance between two partners! It's felt like a big chunk of the books so far have leaned on M's ability to share his feelings and hold conversations, something the Seong-Jae struggles with, so this was a nice experience getting much more into his head. Also, adorable he befriended the coroner.
