The only flaw is a small subplot involving spiritualism, not just because it's dated poorly but because it's not very elegantly integrated with the rest of the story. The rest is up there with Camus's "The Plague" & "The Outsider", and Sartre's "Nausea". And a whole lot funnier, too.

Mattia Pascal è la rappresentazione più pura della coscienza umana che cerca di passare avanti, ma non riesce. Quanti di voi, nella sua situazione, fareste la stessa scelta? Quanti di voi effettivamente abbandonereste tutto ciò che conoscete, a partire dal vostro nome, per poter vivere una nuova vita?
Bel modo per trattare il tema dell'identità, con Mattia che cerca di essere Adriano, ma che effettivamente sta solo indossando una maschera.
