I actually liked this book, even though some of the reviews made me nervous. I loved Freya and Mac and the way they played off one another. Best friends to lovers is truly one of my favorite tropes. If you go in knowing it’s gonna be a cutesy book with an adult virgin, you won’t be disappointed and that’s exactly what I did.

However, I would have rated this book higher if I wasn’t so bothered by the use of “bleddy”, “woman” and “cocker”. I’m a person who considers myself truly obsessed with Europe and the like. While “woman” I understand, is used more frequently, I felt like the other slang was not, based on asking around and literally just googling. I get if she was trying to write in the Scottish brogue, but if that’s the case, Freya wouldn’t have said it the same way. It honestly drove me nuts because it should have just been “bloody” like almost any other book that takes place in the UK. I also asked around about cocker and while it does seem to be used, the author used it SO MUCH. I probably wouldn’t have been so bothered if the three words I mentioned weren’t used so much that it draws you out of the story. I don’t claim all books have to be accurate but when you’re using it so much I start to notice, I feel like I have to mention that. While I was able to get past what I mentioned (barely), it just seemed so overused and unnecessary.

Other than that and a few other slip ups of Americanized words, I didn’t mind the book at all. I don’t think I’ll be reading anything else by this author, at least now.

4.5 rounded up. The audiobook was so good! The narrators were great and I loved the chemistry between the characters.

I am a sucker for a sports romance, don't know why, but they just give me the warm & fuzzies. This was my first Amy Daws book and I liked it! Friends to lovers can be a tricky trope, but I thought this one was thought out. I loved the plus size representation.

I did feel some parts of this book dragged out a bit, and I did not like Freya body shaming herself so much in the book, which also fed into her inexperience.

The banter between the two main characters was enjoyable and I liked that there was a bit of groveling - on the same hand, Mac did say some pretty horrid things to Freya, borderline unforgivable.

The first 50% of this book, I nearly DNF'd twice. The FMC 's issues with her body were a STRUGGLE to read, and not in a "wow, this is an emotional journey" way, but in a "woman, seriously, call a therapist because I cannot handle your self-deprecation and self-esteem issues" way. The MMC also felt more caricature than character. The second half of the book improved some (enough I was willing to finish reading), but yeah - no interest to pick this up again or read anything else in the series.

This book was too cute. Freya and Mac are so clearly made for each other from page 1 - it’s so clear. Her thoughts are my thoughts a lot of the time. We know how society sees us — there’s no getting around it. She’s so cute but damn is she naive and ignorant for someone almost 30 (not me turning 30 this year too) the Never Have I Ever scene gave me SUCHHHHH SECONDHAND EMBARRASSMENT!!!

SPOILER ⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️

The 3rd act breakup was hard — Mac said TERRIBLE things to push Freya away. As someone who suffered terrible grief myself (at a MUCH younger age granted) I somewhat understand his feelings in this aspect but DAMN. He’s 33 years old— he should know better. But we get the HEA we all want and DAMN was it exactly needed and enveloped their relationship perfectly
